Thanks all for answers and links. Any way I slice and dice it to set up fencing the way I'd want it, I'd need about a half mile to get started, then work on cross fencing separate pastures later. I'm looking at ~$2,000 minimum and weekend projects just to get started. Probably more though because at least 7-800 ft I would want to do in something aesthetic. I love horses and will have them, but I think I'll heed the advice of waiting until I'm living there. Our bylaws there state no more than 1 horse for 1st 2 acres, then 1 per acre above that at a minimum. I would never want more than 4 anyway so shouldn't ever have a problem, but at least I can read up on the other thread and get ideas for when I do build there. Going to put up a barn before then anyway.

I used white vinyl for the front 660' run of the property and up the driveway. Heres the unfinished planter at the entrance also.

But one good thing with Fjord horse's is...i probably don't even need any fencing. If there is grass on the ground said:
Tornados last summer put about 20 trees down onto our crappy old barbed-wire fence - it's still that way, and our two pasture-ornaments are still there.

Thanks again.

GRS - That vinyl fence is very pleasing to the eye. Is there a rule of thumb on cost of that fencing per X linear feet? I didn't notice in the photos, but does it also require an inner strand of electric? Beautiful place you have there.

Geesh...i think it was about $7/foot as i recall, installed/ All the posts are in concrete.

We installed about 1,100 feet of it at the time.

There is no electric wire cause my critters dont care less about a fence. there too buzy stuffing their fat little faces. Ive had the fence 6-7 years, never had any damage to it. Mind you the horses aren kept there 24/7. These are turn out pastures.

Their full time corrals are done in non climb woven fencing.

Fresh horses need safe fencing but if you have older, trained horses it doesn't take much to keep them in. Once they hit a hot wire a couple of times they quickly learn to stay clear of it.

I would not put fresh horses in the pasture I keep my older horses in with the barbed wire and just hot wire in places but I feel safe with the older horses in there. Three strands of barbed wire and a hot wire that is usually turned off is more than I need. On the other side of the pasture I just have a dummy hot wire but the horses have learned not to test it.

personally id never use barbed wire around any horse. i know its done al the time, but i worked for a large animal vet in college, and we saw soo many barbed wire accidents and their aftermaths to last a lifetime

Actually, the barbed wire isn't there to keep my older horses in as the threat of touching the hot wire serves that purpose. The barbed wire is to keep my neighbor on his 4 wheeler out.

OUCH! $7/ft X 1100 ft= OUCH! Sure looks good though and last a long time as well.

Nice pics there guys. Hey GRS, I assume the donkey's not a jack? I didn't see any Fjord cross mules around there, even though, that might make a little "pulling machine" of an animal!
