hornet nest

It's pretty cool, we were going to take it down, but figured it was educational as long as we don't open the window. So it was left be. I guess it would still be educational if we opened the window, a lesson in why not to fool with hornets. It got me to do a little reading to understand what I was looking at. The life cycle is interesting, egg, larvae, pupae to adult. Really cool.

Very cool pics. Lot of hornet spit goes into those nests. :)

That hornet nest on the glass might end up leaving a residue ya can't get off, better go scrape it off right away, just set up the video camera first :D ;)

Yikes, I think I would rather replace the pane of glass.

Here in France we are bothered by Asian hornets which are more aggressive than the local ones, and also eat the bees. I can handle the nests which are lower down. Early in the morning when the hornets are dozy I put a rag soaked in white spirit on the nest with a long pole. After a couple of minutes I put a lighted rag on it and stand well back. White spirit not petrol. This method has proved effective.

Both the nest and the trunk of the tree are impressive. The trunk looks as hard as rock.

But just think of the exercise you will get when ya try to start to scrape it off the window!>? All that RUNNING and SWATTING will be real good to raise the ole heart rate for a while I'm sure...
:D :);)

Raise it up to cardiac arrest

Or asphyxiation in my case. Quite allergic. At least to honeybees, not sure about other stinging insects. I just keep the Epipen in one of the side pockets of my Carharts.

Knocked one out of a tree while mowing couple days ago. Didn't realize it. As i made another pass saw it on the ground covered with hornets. I suspect the canopy saved me, overwise i might have had it in my lap.

When I was growing up we had one on a window all summer. We only took it off after the couple of deep freezes and everything was dead or gone. No damage to the glass or anything else. I wouldn't worry about it.
