Geez, I drove through two constructions zones on Friday. At one, the flagger had the sign turned to STOP and was waving me though. At another, the flagger had the SLOW side towards me, waving me through, and to his back, coming towards me, was a line of half a dozen cars! :mur:

......marijuana at work there ....

Enjoying the replies here. Didn稚 have expectations for this thread and direction. My son and I used to be very close up through his high school years. Lots of family events, sports, coaching, etc. A divorce and him getting married and moving to Oregon has drifted us apart some.

He has matured and is starting to appreciate more than video games. I think he is finally enjoying being productive and it is gratifying to me.

A few years ago I started giving him tools as gifts and he is catching the fever.

It will be fun to spend an extended weekend with him and his wife in a few weeks.

I think the place we are taking the lathe working class is a cooperative where one can use all the tools both wood and metal. Great place for for those without the means or space to set up their own shop.

So, basically the same concept as our Men's Sheds.

Good to know... I didn't think that this was a unique community concept.

Why don't those flag people, at least have a lawn chair? That would make it so much easier.

I will never forget one Blonde GF I had that followed that pickup with the follow me sign for road construction, off into a field. Like, you never really know when to STOP following them!

I feel bad for the flaggers out in the hot sun all day, even up here in the (relatively cool) north it must be brutal, can't imagine what it's like in hotter parts of the country. The neon yellow suits can't help either.

Never seen a truck that had a follow me sign on it, though I've seen plenty with signs that said "construction vehicle do not follow". Not really sure why I'm not supposed to follow them...they're just driving down the road. OK to pass them I guess... :confused3:

Our son was 5 in the picture of him welding and 6 using the milling machine. He loves to come to work with me. I hope there’s hope, it starts at home.

Many flag people used to be young women in Daisy Dukes. It was worth the wait.

Just came from the small local grocery store where they spent millions rennovating the store. But since it re-opened, I have not been able to get cheap cooked ham at the Deli, for the Cats. The lady said, she would have some on Wednesday, which doesn't do me any good.

Then a young, stock boy, looked about fourteen, chimed in and said he thought there was some behind the counter and indeed there was. That kid is on the ball! I find young men, generally more concienscious than young woman in positions like that. I think it embarrassed the older lady, all to heck!

Pilot vehicles. Although not as common as flaggers, are used around here especially in mountain areas where there is more danger of due to terrain or rough road. Partly I guess to control speed though the construction site.

We see them in the more mountainous areas of Northern Arkansas too. And probably for the same reasons. Especially if the journey thru the construction zone is long.

Seen that once in a long while too...... usually it was a 2 lane rural highway where both regular lanes were being worked on, and they were controlling traffic going down the dirt-shoulder (perhaps slightly upgraded) on one side only. Not mountain-side drop offs, but I guess the plan is to keep things rolling consistently, rather than letting Ricky Racer citidiot bounce or slide off the shoulder at high speed.

^ might thin-the-herd a bit w/o the pilot truck, but people would get really ticked if there was a tow truck tying up the only lane with an extraction.
