Hi All,
I have a Honda GCV160 that the carb float won't level. I tried both a used and new float and neither sits level when installed. No adjustment, so wondering what might be causing this? I changed the needle, as well. Thanks in advance for any help!

Can you give us some background on this ?

Why do you have the carb off of the mower ?

Are the new parts from a kit that you purchased ?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your reply. This engine was given to me and the previous owner reported no compression. I removed the valve cover and the intake valve was stuck, so freed it and compression was good. The carb leaked, so I replaced the needle, as when pressure tested it leaked air. The float would not install level, so I replaced the float and still, no leveling. The parts were purchased separately, not in a kit. Genuine parts.

Did you clean the carb ? If so, what did you use to clean it with ?

Did you used compressed air to blow out the carb ports ? Most carbs have a hard rubber or nylon type seat in the float valve bottom. It is possible that it moved out of place during the cleaning process.

It is most likely that you have the wrong needle valve, too long. Are you sure you have the float right side up ?

Yes, the carb was thoroughly cleaned with soaking in paint thinner and then ultrasonically cleaned. Yes, compressed air was used. I do not see any type of rubber or nylon seat in the needle chamber. I feel the same way about the length of the needle valve; I'm going to double check the part number and see. Thanks! All good points.

After further research on this carb, it seems Honda had two different lengths of needle valves with two different part numbers. When I put the old needle back in, it leveled immediately. The new valve I ordered was noticeably longer. I should have checked that before. Thanks for your spot on input and help! Take care.

OK, will do. Just ordered the new needle so it will be a few days. Thanks again for your input and help!

Just a note to update on the latest with this issue. Received a new needle and it fit perfectly! Shorter than the other so the right needle was the problem. Thanks again for all feedback!
