Homier\'s- What a joke

I signed up on Homier's "preferred customer list" probably a couple of years ago to get e-mail notification of upcoming sales in the area. For some reason, they won't just post sale dates on their web site for all to see.
Over that time, I have gotten probably 4 e-mails advising me of upcoming sales "in my area". Problem was, all were a good 1 1/2 hour drive away in Kansas! Finally, I got a notification of a sale set for today about 20 minutes from here. And the next day, another e-mail notice of a sale tomorrow, about 30 minutes from here, and a third notice of a sale Tuesday about 30 minutes away.
Since they have been selling CUT's and implements, I have been curious to look at their stuff. Unfortunately, I couldn't make the 12 noon start today, but showed up about 3:00. What a disappointment. First off, no CUT's or implements, oh wait a second, they had lawn tractor dump wagons for $49.99- does that count??
Anyway, I looked around and picked up a couple of small items, and then found a flyer and perused it. Half of the stuff on the flyer was nowhere to be seen. Had they had any, I would have likely picked up a 20 ton press for $99 and an aluminum racing jack for another $99. Nope, out of both. (Did they run out, or just never had any to start with?)
I asked about the upcoming sales on Sunday and Tuesday. The reply I got was the Sunday sale would be all the stuff I saw today less whatever sells by closing time. By Tuesday, they were SUPPOSED to have another truckload of stuff.
I understand they run out of stuff, but the last time they were here (about 2 years ago), they didn't have half of the stuff on my list either.
I just wondered if anyone else has gone through the same frustration with them?
Oh, and BTW, what do their CUT's and implements look like- would they be worth having for the price if they had any to sell?

Re: Homier\'s- What a joke

Seems that we always get a sale the day before they get another truckload in "Order it off the website" they say, " If I had wanted to wait for one to get here I would have ordered from Harbor Freight". I said, anyway they did have a tractor at this show, I didn't look very close at it tho, they are a re-badged Chinese made Jinma tractor, there has been alot of discussion about them on this website.

Probably the most simple way of summing up most of Homier's offerings is that they are cheap, throw-away tools.

Yes, they do have a few remanufactured items, but most of the stuff is worth what you pay.... cheap!!!

You should probably consider yourself lucky that you didn't get the chance to buy any of their "Chinese treasures". It is mostly the lowest quality stuff they can find, and that's why the prices are that low.
I speak from experience..... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I know.
I shop very carefully at these type of places. Harbor Freight is kind of the same way. However, it is hard to resist temptation when you see some unbelievable prices.
For example, they had 6.5hp 60 gallon compressors. (yes they actually had 3 sitting there!) These things are rated (allegedly) at 19CFM @ 40 PSI and 14 @ 90. Price- $299.
To find a similar sized unit from Campbell Hausfeld, Sanborn, etc would be $650-750.
You just wonder why it's so cheap.....

Re: Homier\'s- What a joke

I agree: much of the stuff is very poorly made, the tractors are pretty good though I've got a JINMA not from them but one I got dirrectly from a distributor and I assembled it myself (refered to as a crate purchace) I love it works like a champ. also I ahve one of the small compressors, 3 gallong I think for 80 bucks, and it runs most anything i want, impacts power frameing nailers ect. fills tank plenty fast and tires also. agine watch some of the stuff is total junk, such as th ealuminum levels for like 5 bucks. the viles can be twisted anywhere to make any board level even if it is at 45 degrees... and if you want to you can level a round roller by pushing down on each end of hte levels... lol.

anyhow inspect everything before you leave, and test it once you get home, if not satisfied take it back, I've had no trubles returning anything form them.

Even that may not be enough. I once bought a 6" bench grinder from them and it worked for two days; gave them enough time to get out of town. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I did go to the trouble of shipping it back to them and got a partial refund; only lost about $7. I've bought a few things from them since, but would only buy things that I figure I can throw in the trash tomorrow and not worry about the loss. And that's exactly what I've done with about half the stuff I've bought from them. Trouble is you never know how the stuff's going to do. My brother and I both bought 4" vises from them; mine served me well for 7 years; his broke in less than a week. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I bought a re-conditioned Campbell-Hausfeld 18 gauge brad nailer from them and sure got my money's worth from it, threw away the worthless snap ring pliers, etc.

Yes Bird, they are pretty much like Harbor Freight. Let the buyer beware.

TSC, in my area, has 7 HP Ingersoll Rands for about $400.

Re: Homier\'s- What a joke

From what I understand, some horsepower ratings are also a joke, like shopvacs. Don't know if consumer grade compressors are optimistic but its probably better to compare CFM @ PSI.
