heres a few pics of my homemade fuel tank. i used a verticle propane tank, cut off the top and bottom collars and plugged the original hole, and welded in 3 tank fittings, 2 inch pipe thread, along the top, formerly the side of the tank. it holds about 120 gallons. the wheels are just for moving it around the yard not on road. it has stickers on the side that label it as diesel so if there ever were and incident it would be known. the tanks about 1/4 in thick so alot more durable than a 12 gauge fuel oil tank

That is a nice job!! Looks better than some other ones shown on this site! I like the portability!

thanks, yea its nice to be able to take the tank to the dozer rather than drive the dozer back across the field sometimes. i just realized too i left out the important precautions and info should anyone attempt a propane tank modification simular. as you know if ya just took a torch to it there likely would be an explosion and possibly death or serious injury. what it did was unscrew the valve and leave the tank upside down for a few days to help vent out the last propane since propane is heavier than air. i then took and steam cleaned the inside of the tank with very hot water and commercial degreasing soap, did that a few times, then layed it on its side and cut the three holes with a holesaw on the drill, now with these 3 better access holes i again pressure washed with hot water and soap a few more times, there was almost no detectible propane odor left after this and i welded the fittings without incident. i have washed propane tanks simularly for other projects in the past and have never had an issue. however im not saying that i would neccesarily recommend this procedure as the proper way, im sure there are better ways or safer ways, but just saying it has worked for me a good number of times, altho it only takes one mistake and kaboom! but the bottom line is ya can never wash them too much in my opinion!
