Does anyone have one of these/parts or know where one can be bought? I need one for the engine so a used one needs to be free and have some amount of compression. The one I am looking for would be an older unit, maybe army surplus. Thanks....

I'd look on Craigslist using Search Tempest to look over a wider area.

This is an old generator and it'll be a needle in a haystack. They are a good generator though. 30 years ago I worked in a rental place and customers would run them with no oil in the gas and seize them. We'd pop some heavy oil into the spark plug hole to boost the compression enough to start, then run them on an oil rich mixture for a couple of hours until the rings freed up. Some of them even had a starter generator feature so you could hit them with 12 volts to start 'em. Nice.

I have two of them that are Navy surplus . Neither of them has run for a while but they do turn over and seem to have decent compression. We are getting ready to part them out on ebay because we have no idea what their value might be. They are VERY heavy so I think shipping would be pretty high.

Had one that I bypassed the carbon pile voltage regulator on and converted it to a DC welder.
It origionally was a 24/28 volt unit!
Reversed the modification as a contractor wanted it to start his excavator when the battery was low and needed charging in order to start.
Heavy beast, but rugged.
