These things are great,

I didn't read the rest of the posts but I have personally built a 1/2 dozen of these in trucks and powered like you are.

Check your open circuit voltage, i.e. use a volt meter between your stinger and your ground, welding voltage is only about 30-40 volts but with these setups you need to have your open circuit voltage up to about a 100volts then when you strike arc it will couple and drop down to the required voltage.

keep in mind your open circuit being this high a voltage will do you harm if your get in the loop.

its just the way they work. You need more RPM on the Alternator

RPM = voltage
