Not sure if this is a change or not ....

The Military Discount can only be applied to eligible purchases. It applies to most full-price products.

It cannot be used on any sale item or with any other discount (such as, but not limited to, Lowe’s Price Promise, Lowe’s Credit 5% off Everyday Discount, volume or special pricing programs, and manager discretion price adjustments). It cannot be applied to major appliances (including related accessories and parts), commodities (such as, but not limited to, electrical cable, electrical wire, dimensional lumber, plywood, and OSB), gift cards, previous purchases, fees, installations (sold separately or as part of a bundle comprising both product and services), or any other services (such as, but not limited to, rentals, labor, delivery, shipping, extended protection plans).
Additional exclusions may apply. See store for details.

Thanks

I just got the email from Lowes telling me of the new restrictions to the Military 10% discount.

Lowes was real easy to get the military discount, but HD was more effort then it was worth, so I mostly shop at Lowes.
I have exactly the opposite opinion but I do shop at both depending on which direction I travel that day because Lowes is 45 minutes one cardinal direction and Home Depot is 45 minutes exactly the opposite direction. I do prefer Milwaukee power tools and husky hand tools so that tips it to HD for tool purchases.

Yep. Having it apply automatically *and* be used on sale or clearance items is what makes HD's better. Lowes has started offering the 10% year round, but you still need to go in store and not every manager knows how to/wants to do it.
At Lowes you have to register at customer service then they just pull you up with phone number.

Where can we read the list of restrictions?

Can the Military Discount Be Used for On-Sale Items?

The Military Discount can only be applied to eligible purchases. You can't apply it to on-sale items or with any other discount. It can’t be used on any services, major appliances and related accessories and parts, commodities (such as, but not limited to, electrical cable, electrical wire, dimensional lumber, plywood, and OSB) or gift cards. See above or terms for more exclusions.

As I said above, HD's is still better. Lowe's wont allow it to be used on sale items.

Just as the FAQs say, I need to show ID every time, and at my store, also need to actually ask for it.. every time. There have been times the manager on duty has denied it too.

Do you have a MyLowes card? Do you have the discount registered to it?

All I do is have them scan the card and it's applied automatically. No asking anyone anything. It's also applied at checkout when ordering on the site.

8-9yrs ago I built an entire cabin, in my area, Lowe's always honored 10% off with no limits or exclusions on anything I bought from them all day everyday including special order trusses. Not any more though. From experience HD always had a host of exclusions but honored it for millwork. Also have used Menards 11% store rebates which are available to all.

Not that I know of. Just tell them my phone # then they verify I'm s2s on my mil ID.

Lowe's uses my phone number these days after I filled out ID me on the web. Hd still uses and accepts my V.A. Id. Any vet can get one or you can bring a copy of your dd214 if it's handy. Both stores honored there 10% discounts on applicable purchases if you ask for it for at least 15 yrs with nonspecific dates around me.

Not a vet myself, but two close friends who are only shop at Lowes because they are so easy to deal with on the military discount. It is amazing how making things easy for folks makes them want to shop at your store.

Have always had to ask for military discount at both stores.
Both require some sort of I.D.
Last time at HD I was told I had to register and get something on my cellphone because they would no longer accept Mil. I.D. or whatever.
Lowes accepts Mil. I.D., my phone number or my "My Lowes card".

I've run into problems getting the veteran discount when people have no idea what a DD214 is, so carrying one hasn't worked out all that well for me. I found out a few years ago that I can get a "veteran" status listed on my driver's license here in Texas so I took my DD214 and had them add it. My driver's license now says "veteran" on it and I've used that in areas out of state for proof of veteran status.

I have the myLowes card which makes shopping sooo much easier. Lowe's is my preferred shop. I do go to HD occasionally if I can't find it at Lowe's and I can get the HD veteran discount by showing my drivers license.

Also, get one of these:

Other stores will accept it. I get an additional 10% off after all other sales, discounts and coupons at Big Lots for example.

When I was looking at buying a ZT years ago, I shopped HD and Lowes. As well as some Independent dealers.

HD would only give up to $50 off of anything . Maximum discount up to $500 = $50.

Lowes didn't have that restriction, so on a $3,000 ZT that's a lot of money. At least to me it is. Nothing against HD, good store, just that I use Lowes more now because of their treatment of Veterans.

IMHO, you can judge an entire society by its treatment of their Veterans. But, that's just me.

Also, again, just me, I don't like when people say, "Thank you for your service." It actually kinda pisses me off. To me, it's just 'virtue signaling'

Maybe it's me. I'm a Viet Nam Vet and we were treated a LOT differently.

I did the veterans ID card. The first attempt I thought everything went ok but something like 2-3 weeks went by and no update or approval. So I went back in something didn't go through right the first time so i resent it and this time I got notification. I think within 24 hours it was through approval and had a card maybe a week later if not less. You can also use this card to get a National Park Pass. No discount on camping like the Senior discount and you do have get a new pass every year. I also got a discount on a night stay recently in a state park using that card.

I expect inflation will cause all discounts to vaporize. Not everybody enjoys seeing the person in front of them get a 10% discount.

I just applied for the HD military discount about a month ago. I filled out the form online. They asked for proof and i uploaded my DD214. Five minutes later I received an email. Ten minutes later I went to HD and bought two garage door openers saving me about $50

I would have gone with my MyLowes card which has my discount but they didn’t the openers I wanted.

I'm a Viet Nam Vet also and agree with you on all you said. However, I had a lengthy chat about that "Thank you for your service" comment with an acquaintance of mine. Their perspective was that he truly appreciated those of us who served and was aware of how we were treated then and just wanted to let us know that there are some who appreciated us. So, I've moderated my response and now just say "You're welcome" since some apparently truly mean it.
