Busted!!!
Actually I did read another abreviated article but still misunderstood.
My real crime was PBC though... posting before coffee.
You can easily edit the title now!

That article title was pretty bad. The paywall made it heard to read the article as well.

The amount of money I spend at Home Depot and Lowes, there is no chance they are going out of business any time soon :)

Let’s
So the article claims NABS ( a Home dumpo/Lowes rival) is declaring bankruptcy.
“Canadian lumber had climbed 14.5%. Concrete prices jumped 8%. Household appliances were expected to rise by as much as 20%. Suddenly, the question wasn’t how to build affordably — it was whether starter homes could be built profitably at all.”
Their subset data looks like it was supplied by Will Trump tariffs harm home affordability?

Why are they neglecting the other factors in building? Plumbing and electric have certainly increased. PVC is damn near unaffordable, copper can’t even be discussed. Labor rates, insurance…they missed a lot, IMO.
I read a different article pertaining to this since the one linked here is behind a paywall and tariffs are not mentioned. It stated "Analysts attribute the pitfalls to inflation and a stalled housing market".
The handwriting was on the wall. The surprising thing is that it's taken this long. Economics 101, when prices go up sales will go down. Was it necessary for these companies to raise prices the way they did? No, but they took advantage of the opportunity and only have themselves to blame.

Corporate profits and losses due to damage and theft have to be paid by someone.

What is the tariff amount increase for one 2x4x8, the 10% increase or some other producer/distributor/retailer markup? 10% tariff (some claim 45% is on softwoods)

I see thousands of board feet of lumber, cut to rough dimensions, trucked out on a weekly basis from southern Md. Some timber being trucked to mills in Pa. Various destinations, Canada being one. Cabinet shops came and went, now the builders are crying because imported cabinets are up 30% and due to increase again.
