Regarding construction , I am not sure what would cause more stress , riding on the truck or loading / unloading with jacks . Ours had 4 corner jacks while now I see lifts that basically cradle each side thus spreading out the stress .

Unless you are constantly loading/unloading the camper, the vibration of driving to your destination is going to take more of a toll on the camper, especially a wood framed one.

The only wood framed cars being made are British Morgans and that is the body panel frame, not the main chassis. There is a good reason wood isn't used for vehicle frames...it's inferior in a dynamic loading situation.

I still wouldn't use steel because it's heavy. Go aluminum, even if that means getting a spool gun for your MIG welder, or spend more bucks and get a TIG welder.

I have helped built campers as part of horse floats. The walls and roof was built with cool store wall material about 1 1/4 thick. Made a quick weatherproof box that could take a few knocks.

the end result was a strong base with built in insulation.
