Holy Hell, $ Kubota Filters $ !!

/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I got it pretty good today as I purchased the filters for changing out my hydraulic fluid on my L-4610 by paying a whoping $90..geez. They seem to be of above quality for filters but this is no more than robbery plain and simple. I was so sick I couldn't even begin to enquire as to the price of super UDT.

BeeBop if I were you then I wouldn't even buy or think about the Super UDT for a couple weeks. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif It sure does hit the wallet hard I can tell you that after owning the Kubota L35 for a while.

My dealer doesnt even carry the super UDT just UDT. said in the south that UDT works fine. OK.
ummm i paid $2.82 for a qt today so figure?

I'm not familiar with Kubota's but on Yanmars any filters anywhere near that expensive are cleanable and reusable, time after time, and good for hundreds of hours, as in the hydraulic screen and the air cleaner.

I finally asked about the Super UDT and the Kubota dealer said "huh". He doesn't even stock the stuff due to cost and the temps here in the south. He recommended the NH 134 hydraulic oil instead. He said it couldn't be beat from a thrifty wallet's perspective. What do you guys think?

How many filters did that include? Aren't there 3 or 4 oil filters on the 4610. The hydrostatic filter is a machined, heavy, high pressure filter considerably different then the ordinary oil filter found on the engine or on the hydraulic pumps. It is understandable that it will be costly. At my Kubota dealer, the engine oil filter for the Kubota L48 was $8.00. Perhaps you should also consider what so many folks here have mentioned and consider ordering from a company like Carvers in the future. They advertise on this site and mention that they sell parts like filters, I'm sure you've seen it. Carvers sent me an engine oil filter, the 2 hydraulic oil filters, one hydrostatic filter, an air filter, a secondary air filter, and a fuel filter for about $ 125.00. Actually, they never charged me as they felt bad about the belt missing on the mower they sent me. After the initial 50 hour hydraulic service, the next hydraulic one doesn't come until 200 hours, then 400 hours. If you have a NAPA store near you, they have engine oil filters that are a direct replacement for the Kubota. But then, the NAPA Gold filter is about $9.00. They also sell hydraulic oil from various manufactuers if you feel the price of the oil from your dealer be it for Kubota or NH hydraulic oil is to much. It might pay to shop around, Rat....

Difference between the super udt and udt is flow at colder temps so if in the south I wouldn't worry about the super. (The super is synthetic so I went with the amsoil fluid instead) As far as filters I use wix. Supposed to be very good filters and a lot less than kubota oem's.

I decided to go w/the Warren Tractor hydraulic fluid at $20 ea 5 gal bucket. It meets all the criterion/specs as does the UDT for Kubota. To know me Rat is to know shopping around is something I believe in totally as to avoid blind faith. The 'Bota L-4610 has 3 spin on filters as follows, 1- Transmission , 1- hydraulic and 1- engine. I wanted to go w/the Penzoil fluid but it didn't illustrate the adversity for UDT compatibility.

Just a note of caution on cleanig air filters; unless you have a safety element (dual element) it is a very bad idea to "clean" your air filter. Any time you remove the filer you risk getting dust inside, and when you clean the filter, a certain amount of dirt will get from the outside to the inside. Air filtration is especially critical on diesel engines due to the high compression. At one of our schools we were told of a man that "dusted" the engine in his new tractor in 30 hrs. His intentions were good, but "cleaning" his air filter three times a day wasn't! I don't know what type of filter you have, as long as there's a safety element you should be fine. Blowing or tapping them out is a well used practice that is no longer recomended, the more dirt on the outside, the better they filter. Happy Tractorin', Christa
