Just think, some people think the snow in N.E. is bad. I'll take the snow anyday over mudslides.

Just looks like a piece of Texas gravel to me... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We've NEVER seen a piece of earth that big down here. Our idea of a mountain is a pile of fill at a new golf course community under construction....

That's why I run and hide in the north Georgia mountains as often as I can....

Holly Cow.... It doesn't look like a cow but I think I would "Have a Cow" if it landed on the road right in front of me...........

I was thinking something similar...
Was some Texas kid playing with his slingshot again and shot this one over to CA? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

That is one big rock... How do you think they'll get rid of it?

any experianced BX operator would have that one out of the way quickly if they got the truck out of there. There is nothing that a determined BX owner/operator can't handle. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'll huff and I'll puff, but I will move that rock around. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

As we like to say around here, a small tractor can do the same things as a larger tractor, it just takes longer.

I'm loading the 2230 up today. I'll be out there by Saturday to give them a hand with that pebble.

Anyone want to hazard a guess what this baby weighs?? I know when they were working on the westport jetty, they were hauling single rocks on lowboys and they weren't near this big. It wouldn't surprise if that boulder weighs 200,000 pounds. Public works will probably have to blast it into smaller pieces just so they can move it. I'm glad to see it didn't become a hood ornament in the process.

I had one about that size on a job to chip away in Alabama. We called a blaster but his drill wasnt intown so I put thehoeram on the 300 Komatsu excavator and dug at it. I had a WA250 IT Toolcarrier loader made by Komatsu with a 3 yard bucketand a set of forks there to clean up the chips. Talk about fun. Id hammer off at the big edges till I could get them all broken doen in sharp corners. THen take the loader and get all my spoil and ramp it up and walk the excavator up it a few feet higher. Then chhip goind down. I chipped them up intoroughly 4x5 blocks to handle with the loader. About 8 hours I had it all hauled off. The best thing to do in that rocks situation is to take a rock drill and drill a few holes in it on a diagonal angle and try to spilt it with explosives where a hoe ram would be able to reach it at ground level.

I saw some engineers explode it last night. Looked like on big rock and a gazillion little ones after. So I don't know if they tried again. I would assume they did, because it sure looked pretty big, but with a huge pile of rubble next to it.

25 foot diameter = radius 12.5 feet
Volume sphere (4/3)(pie)(r)3
or 12.5 x 12.5 x 12.5 x 3.1415... x 4/3 = 8,181 cubic feet
@ 150 Lbs/ Cubic feet = 1,227,148 lbs

8,181 cubic feet divided by 27 = 303 cubic yards of material. Just enough for me to make another road into my place. My BX could handle all that in just a little over 400 hours.
