Truthfully, I don't have a clue.

That is exactly right - the name comes from the baby boomer generation, or at least that has been the rumor over the last five years on this board

I will second what garchib says. I had heard the same explaination when the Boomers first came out. It is a tractor for the Baby Boomer generation.
