Can anyone provide me with a detailed history of the Kioti brand? Also, do they have a website that would give more information on the company, dealers, etc? Know alot about the big three but little on Kioti? Thanks

If I remember correctly, Daedong Industrial, which began around 1949 making diesel engines, made their first tractor in 1968.
Kioti came to the US in 1985 distributed by Lely Company. In 1985, Daedong USA began distributing the Kioti brand.
Kioti is sold in many parts of the world as Daedong Tractor.
Daedong diesel engines are used in other brands of tractors such as Cub Cadet (actually a Kioti, just different colors), Mahindra Tractors, some Montana models etc.
Their engines also power many large ships diesel electric propulsion.

I believe it was in 1993 that Daedong USA began distributing the Kioti brand.

Not to quible over minor details, but according to my dealer, he has been selling kioti for 15 years, so that would make it before 1993. That being said, he was just estimating and your 93 could be right on.

Not to be funny (honest), but what the heck does "dong" mean in Korean? I've seen yahnkdong (yes, really sounds odd), Meondong (again sounds odd), mokdong, gehmodong, daechidong, and lastly, lohngdong. The MIS guy at a company where I worked was named Onh Huang Loew. He actually married a girl named Mae Lee Dong. You can come up with all sorts of strange hyphenated names for her. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I was wondering if it was something like "ville" to what U.S. cities are. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Anyone know?

I answered this question for someone a while ago as to the meaning of Daedong which is Big and United.

Yep, you're right. Sometimes it helps to proof read before posting. I was still on the Lely date! Thanks.

I believe that he means in 1993 Kioti begin distributing themselves. Before 93 they were distributed by a company called Lely. They were still called Kioti before 93 but now they handle everything direct instead of though a distributor. Kioti has been in the states as a brand since 1985.
