Yes, you guys that helped out earlier and said that my problem might be the starter were correct. I had the starter rebuilt by a starter shop, installed the starter, but when you try to reconnect the positive cable to the battery, the starter engages as if you were trying to start the tractor. All hookups are secure. Called the starter place and they said it might be an ignition problem. I don't buy it because I didn't have an ignition problem before. Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks

Sounds as though your solenoid positive is grounding internally, or maybe one crossed wire??

If it were me (I have done this before:)), I would wire the battery and cables up and make sure everything is hot and grounded EXCEPT the starter. Operate your key switch and watch which wire lights up at the Start, Run and Off positions (VOM or test light).

I don't buy the ignition problem either...but it just might be ignition wire problem /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Good luck,

Mark
