High/Low Observation

   / High/Low Observation #21
I used high on BX24 when running a box blade. It did make me concerned I was over working transmission though. I could smell something when I ran in high. I was told this is warm oil smell coming out the vent and it was not hurting anything.

I'm glad to hear that smelling HST oil is normal. I finally got a chance to use the B7610 for a decent amount of dirt moving/FEL work yesterday, and was smelling HST oil. I kept looking for leaks, as I just put the remotes on it last week. Fortunately, no leaks.

For those interested, I took pictures of the installation of the remotes, and will be posting them along with a parts list when I get a chance to write it up.

When I was young helping on the family ranch, everything was done in high range and high gear. A few grass lines didn't matter when you had that hot date at 7:00 p.m. Now that I'm much older, most things are done in low. Not that I'm afraid of high, as I mow the lawn as fast as possible (keep the blades sharp) with my lawn tractor, but other tasks put a lot of stress on diesel tractors and the more moderate you operate the less chance of something breaking.

Oh, and also, I don't have that hot date at 7:00 p.m. anymore so I can spend a little more time on getting things right. At 7:00 p.m. I'm normally having dinner with my fabulous wife, so it's not about 7:00 o'clock anymore. (You think I got myself out of this if she should read this post?)
