High 1742 Fuel Filter Pricing

Recently purchased a new 1742. Like to keep full set of spare filters on hand so stopped bye local dealer on Friday. Counter person looked a little confused after picking out the 2 fuel filters and said the owner would like to talk to me. He seemed embarassed to tell me that the 2 fuel filters listed for roughly $100 and $80. He said he was working with corporate to get more reasonable pricing and said in the mean time he would sell them at his cost, roughly $60 each. Big change from my $30 single filter in my previous 1533. Anybody have another source for these overpriced filters?

Price a pump and injector replacement, filters wont seem so bad.

I did my 50 hour service last weekend and couldn't find a source of filters other than the dealer. These tractors are still so new that even the parts guys pause when you tell them that you have a 1700 series. I paid around $70 for the transmission filter and $25 for the engine oil filter. Yes, a rip off but didn't want to worry about finger pointing over a warranty issue and non Massey filters. I don't think I will be changing my fuel filters very often.

Fuel filters don't need to be changed for 500 hrs - I'm sure that will give someone plenty of time to find a lower cost alternative.

Change Interval has changed with the new 1700 Series versus previous series too. 1700 Series is now 500 Hour Recommended Change Interval versus 300 in the past and it's got finer micron filtering to protect Fuel System Components. You can buy cheap filters with less filtering capacity and lower change intervals and bigger holes in filter media. Like mentioned price the Fuel System Components and see which is cheaper a better filter and better protection or Injection Pump, etc.

Glad I got my 1529 this spring. The dealer told me the tier four stuff was coming and would be more expensive. He said mine was the last 1500 series they could get.
