The previous owner was a complete idiot with this issue. He drilled a hole in the case cover on top of the trans where you check the fluid level, then welded a long metal piece of round stock curved at the bottom to try and lock it in low range. Discovered the issue when I got the 235 under a load and it would slip out of low range. After splitting the thing in half we found the selector lever pin that rides on the hi/low gear laying in the bottom of the trans housing. Had to tear it all apart to be able to remove the selector lever, grind out the remaining pin, punch it out and then used a grade 8 bolt, star washers, thin nuts and lock tight to replace it. Took us around 40-60 clock hours to get it all apart, fix and put it back together.
This was my first time splitting a tractor but there is always a first time for everything. Wasn't afraid of splitting the thing as I was a Aircraft Mech (Crew Chief) in the USAF back in the day so just another thing to learn. Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
