Tractor
Kubota M7040
Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker for about two years trying to learn as much as I can, particularly with regard to which tractor to purchase. Thank you for all the information and experience you guys have!

I've had my new house on almost 40 acres for a year but I work on Navy ships so I've only actually lived here for about 5 months. Much of that was with my wife getting hospice care in our home So not much time or the will to spend time on the property. So I plan to use the tractor for snow removal of the short driveway, around and to my three pole buildings and about a 1/4 mile back on the one main trail I have. Next summer when I'm home I'll have a neighbor excavate a couple dig outs of the small valley walls so I can build two concrete bunkers with a few 8" tall slots for deer season. Just want to blend them into the hillsides. I'll also maintain the rest of the trails during the summer months (nothing wet or too brush covered....just keeping trails clean for the quad and getting rid of fallent branches).

I had a pretty tough time trying to decide what to buy. For me it boiled down to Mahindra or Kubota. They are literally the only two dealers near me that actually service and have been around for a long time.

The Kubota dealership had a Mahindra 2600 series cab tractor they took in on trade only a few years old with 300 hrs and a front mounted snow blower for 27k. That was a great deal and the price range I could easily live with. However, I found out they had already sold it :( Okay, I missed out on a hell of a deal but I need to regroup before the snow really starts. So I got in touch with the Mahindra dealer who are real nice folks (sold Mahindra for 10 years and Case for ages before that), and to get the same 2600 series with the front blower I'd be well into the 40's. Damn, I like the lack of def fluid etc but that's a lot of coin.

So last year the Kubota dealership quoted me a bit North of 36k for for L3560 with a front blower. I think that was pretty good. I went back today and see they have a L3560 so I ask what the package is now and (time for another damn!) the same package is North of 45k. Not really having much luck so far. So......I heard from a neighbor abot a friend who is selling his 2012 M7040 with 430 hours, always garage kept and in like new condition. I saw the pics and it really does look like new and the seat even still has the plastic on it. I'll end up less than 40k for it but will have to go with a 3 pt mounted snow blower. It's got the Hyd shuttle shift and is bone stock. It's possibly a bit more than I needed but I'd rather have a bit more than less. Plus it pre tier 4 and the seller seems like a really good guy even willing to trailer it to my property almost an hour away.

Did I do good with this one? I kinda feel like I did.

Sorry for being so long winded.....I'll start another brief post with the questions I have. If it's not okay to list prices please let me know and I'll do a quick rewrite.

For your purposes doing your driveway a little too big is better than a bit too small. I think you just bought a nice tractor which should give you years of service.

Oh yeah, Welcome to the forums. 👍

Thanks for the welcome, I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions for everyone on the forum. I'm kind of hoping it will also be the last tractor I buy. I'll just work on attachments and projects and maintenance now.....hopefully.

Thanks! At 56 I finally got the property I've wanted my whole life.

Welcome to TBN. Don't worry - on 40 acres you will find plenty of uses for that 7040. I have 80 acres, mile long driveway and my M6040. With only 430 hours it's not even broken in yet.

Being always garaged means the tires and all rubber components are still in A1 condition.

This IS TRULY a great find. Perhaps the last year they made the Tier 3 series.

That was kind of the reaction the salesman at the Kubota dealership had. It was clear he wished he had found it for his own property. After getting so discouraged this was a win I really needed. All of a sudden I'm thinking of a half dozen new projects I can do :)

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I'm sure I'll learn a lot about tractors from you guys.....and likely from some mistakes I'll probably make.
