I am no fan of MTD thats for sure they are to me the throwaway mower etc manufacturer its possibly hurting Yanmar from my perspective also in all fairness but have no real experience with Cub/Yanmar at all fwtw.

Just for conversation I hear on the radio almost every day that Polaris is using Yanmar diesels in their side by sides now! So for Polaris which builds excellent machines already that is a HUGE sales increaser and one that makes absolutely perfect sense. carry on

I posted this January 2009;

Hi Dave,
I posted this earlier, you may have already read it?
Curt

Let me start out by saying I'm a huge fan of Cub products, but have some concerns about their marketing of the CUT products. Other folks who have experienced the problems I'm about to mention can either confirm or deny the accuracy. My problem is that Cub doesn't seem to be able to decide on a make and model in the compact line and just about every year or two, new models are introduced, made for Cub by different companies. I'd be OK with that but I hear about relatively new models thet are already seeing parts in short supply or not available.

If you look at Ford/New Holland, Kubota or many other manufacturers, they develop a product line and build them for years. As a result there is a large installed base and a demand for parts that keeps them from becoming obsolete. I'd like to hope Cub and Yanmar are hooked up for the long haul, but I'm doubtful, because some Finance/Materials guy will find someone to build a cheaper version next year. They seem to be so short sighted.

I bought a Ford 1220 eight years ago. It's comparable to todays TC18. The local New Holland dealer has had all the supplies and parts I've needed since I bought it. Also, many parts/supplies can be bought online in a generic format, because they made thousands of them and because they shared parts with the 1320. 1520, 1620 and numerous other similar models.

If Cub wants to be a player, they better start playing on a level comparable to the leaders in the CUT category.

Just my opinion.

Curt

I don't think that CCY parting ways will be a bad thing. Yanmar will take over for all the CCY tractors sold so getting parts will become easier. Yanmar makes a great product, I have an 86' 169D and that is one tough little tractor. I cant say it was trouble free, I have had to repair leaks and such but for reliability it couldnt get much better. :thumbsup:

Does anyone have any further details on this? Just wondering at what point I can expect Yanmar variants showing up. It wouldn't make much sense for them to let the product stagnate after it was beginning to get some attention. When the CCY tractors dry up, and it seems like this is occurring, there needs to be something in the pipeline ready to takes its place.

That and I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge of what actually occurred between mtd and Yanmar? Who split from who? The main reason I ask is if MTD decided to walk away then Yanmar may not be in the position to market and sell their tractors as they claim to be.

I find the whole incident to be quite sudden with little information, and therefore suspect.

The Yanmar brand will be better off for sure now. There isn't a doubt Yanmar know what they're doing. I would think Yanmar knows the potential of the product they offer. Also they know the potential of the product they don't offer. No doubt we will see 60, 70, 80hp tractors coming into the US with the Yanmar name on them. Way out of the relm anything MTD to handle.

Smart move on their part really, use Cub Cadet to establish and penetrate an already existing dealer network. Cub was the easiest way to get the foot back in the door while the JD venture played out to it's end.

Hopefully cub will just stay out of the compact market and concentrate on making the lawn mowers a bit better.

Just my opinion.
