Hey Dancce,

I checked out a Branson 4350 up here at the local dealer last summer. It was a good looking, well laid out tractor. Only problem I found with it,is that the seat would not go back far enough to fit my petite bod!!

Is the Century the exact same tractor?
Or are there some differences? We do not see the Century line up here.

If you are talking about having the steering wheel literally between your knees, I spoke to Branson about this. They have now extended their steering columns and are retrofitting all the Bransons out there.

We sell the Bransons and the last load we got it had the extended steering column. The shorter column was fine with the old style seat, but when they went with a cushy suspension seat it made things close. Check out the 10 and 20 series Bransons, they are the latest and greatest and are really well built.

Hi Woodbeef: Fancy seeing you here-you had provided some suggestions/responses on antiquetractor. I have looked at Century (carefully) and have seen the Bransons. They are almost identical-differences being in the importer. The Century loader/frame is very strong-at least it impressed me (not easy being a cynic). The problem I saw was American JAWA isn't really promoting them (the way, say Branson does, or, Mahindra's push to capture market share), i.e. they don't hype them. My sense is the dealers are not "strong" types (at least the one around here). Also, the importer is (or seems) VERY conservative. Example, Century use the same BH as the JD (along with the Yanmar engine on the 40 Pto HP one). The only BH they offered was the JD 47 model BH (painted red) which was just too short for me. The JD 48 would have been just barely ok. Since the model 47 and model 48 use the same attachment mechanism, and since the Century loader frame (to which the BH subframe is attached) is probably the strongest I've seen it would seem reasonable to be able to use the slightly larger hoe. The dealer thought it would be no problem but when he checked with engineering (the head engineer is from Zetor) he said he didn't want to risk it, i.e. no warranty!. So, I don't have a Century sitting here. I liked the Century real well. But despite the quality and engineering, the lay-out (I really like the below floor fuel tank fill!), etc. they don't sell very well. I was told by a major third party equipment manufacturer (who shall remain nameless) that Century is close to the bottom is sales figures-too bad. The importer has shown that just because you have a better mouse-trap, the world will not necessarily beat a path to your door. My conclusion was that there would be a big hit on resale. Engine service probably would have been ok since a JD dealer could probably get parts if needed. Anyway, take care. JEH

grimreaper,
Unfortunatly you are probably right about the Century sales. If America JAWA would promote them the way they should there is no reason they wouldn't be as popular as any other brand. I looked at all of them before I bought my Century. Mahindra,Kioti, even 'bota and JD. Dollar for dollar the Century was the best deal out there. I just keep hoping that one of these days I won't be the lone (almost)Century owner.

Hey Woodbeef,

Yep, the Century and Branson tractors are essentially the same, both made by Kukje Machinery in South Korea.

Centurys are sold in the US by American Jawa Ltd., the Czech owned distributor for Zetor tractors in the US.

Bransons are distributed by an outfit in Georgia that was started in 1998 by two individuals.
They had them before AJL in the US and have done a good job promoting them.

The main difference between Centurys and Bransons are the loaders. Century has the heaviest and best fit loader of the two by far, in their C50.

As a Century dealer myself, I somewhat agree with Grimreaper , in that AJL is playing catch-up in their marketing of Centurys. However , if what I have been told is true, we will be seeing a lot more out of AJL with regard to the Century tractor starting in 2003. AJL hired an ex John Deere (17 years) man a few months ago to head up their sales force and the word is that a big push on Century tractor sales is a priority.

American Jawa has warehouses in Harrisburg, Pa. and LaPorte, Texas and their own sales force. Their dealer network is probably spotty with some hot spots and some dead areas (as with Branson), but I know they are looking to correct this.

All in all, I think Century will be the one to watch in the next couple of years.

Hey Grimreaper,

I tend to get around every now and then!

Hey Dancce,

Only makes sence that AJL push the CUTs. It is the one market segment that seems to be growing every year!!

Hey Loges1,

I'm not sure about sales in MO. but I can assure you there are quite a few Century owners in Eastern Okla. They just don't seem to be online yet. You are not alone out there.

Woodbeef,

Of course you are correct about the market for CUTs. Everyone is jumping in to get a share, including the Chinese.
As you know AJL (Zetor) up until a few months ago had some ownership issues to resolve, when the Czech government decided to sell. Now that all that is behind them , with a financially strong owner, we are seeing some positive changes. With Mahindra, Kioti, and even Branson getting such a head start, AJL has their work cut out for them if they are to become a significant player in the CUT market.
Obviously I'm betting on them!
I could have had any of these lines as a dealer, but like Loges1, I chose Century, because I think they are the best bang for the buck.
