Herd F-160 seeder/spreader

I don't know about that specific model, but the Herd stuff is top of the line.
Throws a beautiful pattern, you can adjust it in anyway, and amazingly well built. (real cast iron, real steel, etc)
and better yet, built in america. (yeah!!!)

The F-160 is a step up from the M96. It's been discontinued from what I can tell. (Herd no longer shows it on the website as current model) Instead of the flexable drive on the M96, the F-160 has a conventional pto shaft. 3 bushel hopper is too small for large scale fertilizer application, but as I mentioned, I have the Vicon spreader for that. Looking for something small to broadcast alfalfa. The Vicon is a tough act to beat for accurate seeding, just too big for some jobs.

I have the M96 3PH and only see a few differences in it and the F160, mine is old and still works well, the only thing missing is the PTO cover, but since I'm the only one using it I won't worry about replacing it. The thing I like about it is it is small and easy to store and easy to get on and off the tractor and picked it up at an auction for $165.

That was a good buy. The biggest difference is capacity of the hopper. The 160 is 5 bushel. I think I recall the 96 being 3 bu.

I got mine home today. It ended up being NEW. The original owner bought it to seed a couple pastures. Once he got it home, the seed rate vs. ground speed vs seed type formula intimidated him to the point he hired someone else to seed the pastures and the seeder has set in the shop for 2 years, unused. I washed it off with the garden hose and now have a new seeder!

Score ANOTHER one for Craigslist!

Farmwithjunk;
That was a good find, I've used my brothers small Cyclone 3 pt seeder to seed my orchard grass and timothy this past spring. I seeded them seperate and it did a good job with the timothy so I don't see why one wouldn't work with alfalfa.
I picked up a Herd 750 at an auction in Starlight last month for $225 that is in good shape. I plan on using it to apply fertilizer and would like to find a smaller seeder like the F-160 or 96 for seed.

I borrowed an M96 a few years ago to seed a hayfield. The F-160'll work just fine.

Would that have been the Robert Kruer auction? My dad and his brother were best friends.
