I didn't know you were allowed to ask about henro around here !

Like you I was concerned if he was OK but when I asked about him I was rewarded with all kinds of personal attacks because of my caring for another person and the thread was deleted.

Seems it don't pay to love your neighbor at TBN

You asked the question....... I answered the question.... others added to that answer.... someone hit the notify moderator button..... the moderator didn't like what he saw and deleted the post. Henro is alive and well and you know the reason that he left, so there is no need to go into that a second time. Those that don't know the reason, don't ask me, I won't tell. However someone else might go into the details. Don't know if it will be any better than the last time though....

With all due respect, please go back and re-read the kind of responses you make to people's posts. They come across very negatively and in a bitter, critical manner. If you would give some thought to the way in which you come across, perhaps people would respond in a better manner.

TomH,

A nice reminder to all of us that email and forums are a lot different than face-toface communication. The person we are addressing cannot see our grin (or our scowl) when we say something, nor can they hear the tone of our voice, so it is sometimes hard to tell whether someone is being funny, or mean, or sarcastic.

I learned some hard lessons about that years ago when I tried to write like I often speak and it did not come across as funny to some folks, in fact, I unintentionally offended a few people. I had to learn to tone my message down and read what I have written before hitting the "Send" button. I try to think how it might be perceived by the receiver(s). If in doubt, don't send it or at least tone it down a lot.

Unfortunately, attempting to be funny is one of the easiest ways to offend someone. It just doesn't come across the way we intended.

I believe that some folks who come across as being less than friendly and tactful really are nice folks, they just don't see how they have offended others by their remarks.

I think that may be what happened to several people on this forum is they were offended by others remarks and left. And the "offenders" probably did not mean to offend, they were just a little lax in their choice of words.

Please folks, let us all try to play nice.

I am not a Rotarian but I really like their "Four Way Test":

"Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

Bill....... I am a Rotarian (retired/Sr Inactive/past President) and you are correct about the 4 way test. Unfortunately, some people don't learn even when they are given specific examples and are specifically instructed as to where they went wrong. I don't want to dwell on the subject and I don't want the thread to close or disappear, however, the old expression........ "a word to the wise should be enough" comes into play. As I so often would say in business...... I deal with reasonable people reasonably, and unreasonable people not at all. Some people can not be reasoned with.

I have spoken to Henro by phone and he told me he left purely because he was spending too much of his time here. basically wanted to get back to a more active and fulfilling life. He had no qualms about TBN

Is this not what he stated in his post????

Also I have to kind of agree with him on his reasons.....

Oh well, my time is never going to be 100% efficent. I enjoy this and benefit from it. I bought a new computer printer system last week so I intend on enjoying it much more. I have learned a lot here. Most of my time is before I go to wrok or before bed time.........teddy

I can certainly understand the time factor. About the only forum I visit here is the Kubota Owning/Operating.

I also visit 2 Jeep forums regularly and a couple of others occasionally.

If I not careful I will spend several hours a day reading and responding to forums. Add to that a couple of new sites I read and I can fritter the whole day away.

I have a cure though. We are leaving for Buena Vista, Colorado in the morning and won't be back until Oct. 1. The downside is I bought a Wi-Fi card for my laptop so I may be able to find a decent connection.

In reality this is all a matter of dealing with my abundance. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife, a great business that allows me a lot of leisure time, and the financial wherewithal to travel 3 or 4 times a year. I have it made and I am really grateful for all of it.

And we all have the Internet. Think of how much help and advice we would have all missed out on if we didn't have the Internet and this forum.

I'll miss this group while I'm gone but I'll be back, still lots of tractor work to do around here.

You are a great group and we should all concentrate on trying to help one another no matter what color tractor we own or anything else.

If you could, the next time you speak to Henro please let him kow that therre is a lady in France who misses him on TBN. I go through similar stages, sometimes it seems like I spend a lot of time here, althoguh I'm not postin, I'm lurking. Then I can go for quite a long time without even peeking. Depends on how busy I am on the farm.

When my husband and I bought our farm about a year and a half ago, Henro along with others were extreemply helpful, extreemly, to me explaining the tractor. My husband early retired as a French Chef/Restaurant owner and the only thing he knows about mechanics is how to jump a battery. Although he did learn quite a bit about plumbing in his years of cooking.

We are both making progress, he even fixed the sprayer by himself yesterday, without having to call the neighbor fo help.

Henro and others, and you know who you are, Bird & oh I just can't think of the names right off top of my head, you were a big help to me. When Henro is ready he'll be back. Probably when he goes to buy another piece of equipment. And when he does it will make for a better TBN community. Merci, Henro! Ah BCZoom, I jsut thought of another one who helped us so much.

Rox,
I remember the thread "How grip up and down steep hills" , That was a while back. Did you ever solve the problem?

I do not talk to Henro very often as i live in Australia, When i call him next i will mention you miss him on TBN.

daedong,
Yes you remember well, the hills were terrifying. What we did is figure out how to get the smaller articulated tractor to work. My husband feels safer on that tractor. Also the tires are filled. He only uses the big tractor which holds the PTO driven sprayers to go up the big hills for spraying. Basically it was fill the tires, and minimize the trips with the big tactor.

Through TBN I have learned about an implement called a Box Blade. We totally need that, he should run the box blade on the drives up and down the hills to smooth them out, cuz they are rather full of ruts. I will keep my eyes peeled in France to see about getting a used BoxBlade. Also my husband has gotten a bit more experience on the tractors, so he isn't as terrified. It still makes him quezy but it wasn't like before. He always back down the hills.

Depending on the ahrvest this November and December, 2006 might jsut be the year we buy some equipment. We are very conservative and like to have the money in the bank before we buy since we are so new to farming. Like to keep the bills paid, and not have any credit. We sleep better that way. In our former lives when we had more regualr income we would stretch now and then to invest in things, but we are not taking any chances finacially jsut yet. Need to have more than one crop picked and sold that is for sure.

We did real well our first year though. We sold everything, and we sold it to quite prestigious clubs in USA, I mean you would recognize them. The oil is really the tops. We have a small inventory to carry us through the end fo the year but basically we grew it, we scrambled to find cusotmers, that was hard, and we sold it and got paid.

The farm, so far appears to be able to provide us with a moderate income, and that is all we were looking for. We have other investments, we just wanted to make a moderate income and enjoy our life, and after a year and a half we have reached the goals we set. Basically we are happy!

We are happy with our decision, our transatlantic move, and our life. It is a good life, we love our work on the olive farm, it is a challenge to learn something completely new. It is more or less keeping us young (I'm 51 my hubby is 54). The crop this year doesn't look as big as last year but it still looks pretty good. But OMG do we have prunning to do, I will probably spend 2 more years jsut prunning every chance I have. But then the trees will all be lower and it won't be so bad to just do maintence pruning. Right now we are doing remidial prunning, the farm hand from the previous owner let these trees get way to tall. But we'll geter done! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for asking BTW.
