Help with RPM and a front snow blower

I have a 5030 with a cab fortunately for me in this cold weather. I just this got a front mount mounted snow blower with the mid mount PTO. This weekend I used it for the first time. It worked very well. However what is the PTO speed you should run it at.

I have a brush hog and run my rear PTO at 5400 which I understand is the industry standard. So is there a recommended rpm setting to run the blower at. I ran it 1500 to 1800 RPM and and it seemed OK but I do not want to run it too fast and hurt it.

I looked at the owner manual for the blower and could not find recommend RPM for the blower.

I hope you meant to say you are running your rear pto at 540 rpm. Check you tractor and blower manuals again, and ask your dealer. Most mid pto's run at 2000 rpm. Should be the same engine speed that you use for the 540 rear. Philip.

I was often wondering the same question about the rear PTO. Do you need to run a full 540 rpm speed? Obviously you shouldn't exceed the rating, but can you run it slower or is that bad too?

Actually, I believe the mid pto is rated at 2500 rpm. You can run mid and rear implements at less than rated speed but you risk the implement not performing efficiently and possibly bogging your engine. Listen to what your engine is telling you for correct speeds. Regards, Mike

mid pto is 2100 rpms. I run my tractor at 2200 rpms which isnt screaming, but isnt lugging. If I run into deeper snow, I will turn the r's up, or fairly light snow I run lower rpms. 2700 rpms is where I hit 540 rpms for the rear or 2100 for the front.

I run my 4240 with a front blower anywhere from 1800 to 2600 RPM (engine). It all depends on the snow. Each time I blow snow I play with the RPM to find what works best. Things I use to judge are how much snow is being pushed by the snow blower, how light and fluffy or wet and heavy it is, how fast I want to travel, how windy it is, how far I want to move the snow, is the driveway frozen or will there be more stones than normal, etc.

Plus what size is the blower you are using. Your 50 hp tractor prob has the 2185 but that wont work it either.

If you have a "pto rpm indicator" line on your tack you can use it for rear or mid pto

I run my front blower at 1800-2000rpm engine speed and increase/decrease accordingly

If the snow is pilling up at the front of the blower and cannot be cleared quick enough either increase RPM or decrease travel speed

Aything less than the 540 R.P.M., engine speed is a no no for the transmission and drive train and it in no way saves you anything because your implement gearbox is rated for 540 R.P.M., which is what the mounted implement is designed to run at.

Attachments like mowers, tillers, snow blowers, Etc. can be run at less than 540 RPM speed, it doesn't hurt them any. But they may not perform as well at the lower RPM speeds..
