Rotary Cutter Help with rotary cutter

I have just bought my first tractor and am fairly new to the whole thing. It is a New Holland with 47 pto hp can I run a 6' cutter fairly well?

Easily. no problem at all. You could even go up to an 8' cutter.

Normal rule of thumb is 5 pto hp per foot of cutter width.

I ran a 5'er on a 8-N Ford with no problems and a 8-N is only 25hp or so. I now have a 35hp Branson diesel and I hit a hunk of concrete with the 5'er and it chewed the concrete up! They depend a lot on inertia to do their job in heavy stuff. I was eating palmetos with the 8-N, just back over them and lower.

47hp will toy with a 6' mower.

When I got my first tractor, a fellow at work told me that a brush mower could handle anything I could drive the tractor over. He was wrong: Some things I back up over to mow, I don't want to drive the tractor over it!

Your tractor will handle a 6' blade just fine. If you get into really, really heavy grass or weeds, you might have to slow down a bit but normally I zip along without any problems at all.
