Tractor
Case Farmall 75C, john deere 1520, Polaris 900 XP
I recently purchased a 1969 John Deere 1520 gas tractor. A friend of mine serviced the tractor for me and it seems to be running well. However the differential lock pedal doesn't spring back like it is supposed to and the brake pedals seem to stick. Any advice on troubleshooting this stuff would be great

Have you tried lubing the pivot points? Dif lock normally remains down until power to rear tires is reduced.

Has this tractor set a long time?

Welcome to the forum Jon Edwards, ditto on lubing the pivot points. Does the diff lock pull up easily or do you have to really tug on it?

Thanks for the ideas. I'm pretty new to this. The diff. lock has been loosening up a little. It is stiff to push down with your heal and I basically have to use my hand to pull it back up. I saw a tractor similair to mine for sale in town. It was in great hape and looked to have been restored. It was a bigger tractor than mine, but same vintage and roughly the same design. The diff. lock was identical to mine. I tried it and it sprang back in place like it had a spring tension on it (which I think it does).

My tractor has been sitting for some time. My friend that serviced it said the whole tractor seemed pretty dry. The man I bought it from said he used it for the last five summers to mow and hay with.

As for the brakes, they don't return all the way. You have to use your foot to pull them back out about the last 1.5 to 2 inches. The actual brakes don't seem to be sticking, just the pedals don't come all the way back.

My friend lubed and serviced the whole tractor. I wasn't sure what you meant by lubing the pivot points. The pivot point for the diff lock appears to be inside the tractor. Any advice on how to lube that and what to use?

Thanks for the help-Jon
