Help with my cub 1000

I have a cub 1000 that has served me well for the last 7 years Duriing that time I have had to replace the electric clutch 2 times and am facing doing it again because the front clutch plate is bent and will not enguage. These things cost 300.00 the deck is getting ragged and sits cockeyed for what appears to be no decernable reason. It runs great but steers bad. the bushing is out of the steering colum and the nut is rusted down to the point the impact won't budge it.

I am faced with the decision to repair it (figuring about 500.00 if I can weld the deck up myself) or replace it.

The carriage that holds the deck seems weak and spindly and the deck just plain falls off occasionaly. Usually cost me a belt.

I want a ZTR but only own 3/4 acre but there is alot to mow around. I was thinking the ZTR would cut down on the trimming.

What do you think? Can I get a clutch cheaper or am i stuck paying 300.00. The mower is becoming a burged insted of the enjoyment I used to take in the old Iron mowing the yard.

A few years ago I used to mess around with old IH Cub Cadets quite a bit (complete restoration on a couple too). One of my biggest source of parts was dealers that had been around during the IH era and had a "salvage yard" of old IH CC iron. While I don't recall exactly, I believe the electric PTO clutch was common on a few of those old IH CC's (assuming you still have the original engine in yours). If you can find a used one (maybe even the whole tractor and deck since it sounds like yours has other issues too) in decent shape, it may serve you well and cost less.

You can get to a good forum for old IH CC iron at this URL: www.ihcubcadet.com. They even have a For Sale section where you may be able to find someone salvaging an old IH CC with a good PTO clutch.

But in all frankness, it sounds like it might be time to give that old friend a rest.
