Help with ID of tree

Bruce,
I'm lost. How is finding the diameter of the log going to identify it's species?
Maybe I'm just tired.

This tree ID method always works for me.

Measure like the red arrow shows. If not circular, measure the long way and the short way and average the measurements.

:)

I missed the joke the first time around; ID = Inside Diameter... as in the middle of the hollow log. (it was funnier before I explained it :duh:)

Teg,
Thank you very much! I worked kinda hard yesterday and my brain hasn't recovered.

Humm it looks like they missed the black oak which I have lots of on my property. I don't see tan oak either.

To add to that, from some research I've done lately, I "think" oaks sometimes interbreed. I've got one that appears to be a hybred.

WOW!! ID - that went over so fast and far above my head also. Was going to ask about it too but couldn't formulate an intelligent question. Ha,ha,ha

I enjoy making people smile or laugh, as long as I don't get punished.
