I used my tractor again today and it jerk's from time to time when shifting from foward to reverse . I have not got the hang of the ehss on my tc55 .Is there any idea's when to shift and at what rpm and range that is better or worse. Some time's it shift is smooth and other's a not so smooth?

Does it have a Turtle, Rabbit switch? Are you letting off the throttle when you shift?

It doesnt have the turtle and rabit i had that on my tc40 hydro.I guess it must be me learning how to shuttle .I tried it again yesterday and it only jerked when shuttling a couple of time's.I guess the owner's manual doent explain it to me as good as it should.I just dont want to have undo wear on component's while in learning mode.I dont think it's out of adjustment as of yet it only has 10 hr's on it.

After running it again and keeping my foot off the inching pedal the tractor showed no sign's of jerking.I had to make my self not to use the clutch. It is as specified no clutching. It is easy to use as the hydro was.I was used to the clutch transmision's then the hydro .Old habit's are hard to break. It just took a while to realize not to use the inching pedal at all unless loading the bucket.

Once warmed up a bit, mine shifts fine by backing off the foot throttle a bit, then back on it once it reverses. Once you get used to forgetting you have a clutch pedal (except for pto) you'll enjoy the ehss. DocBob on this forum and I discussed last fall whether you could just go from standstill in neutral into forward or reverse without clutching. My manual (2120) and his TN did not say anything about those situations. I still use the clutch to start from standstill, just habit I guess. I don't have an inching pedal.
Most times I leave the e switch in rabbit, as the turtle reversing is slow, and I can't figure it's any easier on the tranny, since the actual shift does not seem any smoother, just takes longer to initiate.

Fullpull.....Don't feel bad....my TC55DA has 330 hrs on it and I'm still learning. Mine does exactly what you described but i know it's me and not the tractor. I just have a hard time not using the inching pedal....uuuuggggg!!! I love the EHSS though and have discovered it's just RPM and shifting to get a smooth transition....

Don't use the inching pedal and the shuttel shift at the same time. That doesn't mean that the inching pedal has to be fully depressed. You probably just press a little on the inching pedal and use the shuttle shift. That is where your jerking is coming form. I have my TC55Da now 3 years and I still get a "jerk" once in a while.

Just pay attention to your left foot while using the shuttle... you may wanna put that foot in a different position or something and report back. I am still catching myself once in a while working the shuttle shift and the inching pedal the same time after 3 years! LOL

What is the inching pedal?

The inching pedal is just another word they use for the clutch pedal it dont use the standard hook up to a preasure plate and operate's a switch to stop travel.

The inching pedal functions like what we know as a clutch but I guess it technically isn't a clutch. Even my dealer thought it was a clutch. My understanding is that on the EHSS there is not a clutch....the inching pedal works a valve that adjusts hydraulic pressure inside the transmission. That's about all I know about it.

DieselMonk,

I hear that....i'm doing the same thing....I've gotta break that habit.

Ok, There must be two generations of EHSS out there. I have a 2120 and it definitely has a clutch and a Rabbit/turtle switch. I wish someone would lay out the different kinds an their functions. I use the clutch when I shift from 1st to 2nd, 3rd, etc.. I don't use the clutch to go from foward, stop then to reverse.

In short words: The TC55DA does not have a clutch at all. It is like a half automatic. Therefore the clutch pedal got to be the inching pedal, since there are no cluch disks but clutch packs like a automatic transmission has. The inching pedal operates a valve in the transmission. Due to this type of transmission, we can operate the shuttle shift without clutching or using the inching pedal. I have to use the inching pedal to shift from 1st to 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but don't use the inching pedal at all using the shuttle shift.

Thanks for the info on the inching pedal. I have a DX55 on order, and didn't remember a separate "inching" pedal. It makes sense now, as it acts like a clutch while shifting, but isn't needed to change direction.
I'll admit it felt uncomfortable at first when I used the shuttle when test driving one. My brain was telling my right foot jump on the clutch every time. But after a few minutes it was awesome to drive. I can't wait for mine to arrive.

I test drove one yesterday and the thing i didnt like is the delay when shifting from forward to reverse. It takes a few seconds to make the shift. Is that normal or does it get faster when warmed up on warm days.

I think mine work's better when warmed up .The rpm and ground speed also play's a role in how much time to shift.I wouldn't want a solid shift if i was moving at a medium speed at higher rpm. If it seemed to slide into foward and reverse it's the hydraulic clutch pack's working.I like it just as good as the tc40 with the hydro transmission.

wanna make it shift really fast? just press the inching pedal a bit while yanking on that leaver! ;)

Aside from the stress on the fluid-carrying parts, the reverser certainly loads the gears, shafts, splines, lug bolts, etc. when it cycles. Though the ehss in my 2120 CAN do a full-throttle reverse in any gear, I try to be kind to the physical parts by getting off the throttle until the loads are much reduced, then reversing. Dealer says just use it at any throttle I want to. Every part of the tractor works better when warmed up.
Shuttling in and out of a pile with the loader, though, it seems to function just fine staying at mid-throttle (~2000 rpm) and reversing. Kind of fun, actually, like you're cheating, being so used to a clutch.
As per the variants of ehss, this 1993 2120 does have a disc clutch between the engine and the tranny, that also disengages the pto in its second stage. And the rabbit/turtle for the ehss (that's the e part, I think).
