JD 4110, 2005 Gator TX
Need some immediate help. 4110 HST is sitting in the middle of my field. Using the loader all day to move mulch and running fine. Shut it down for a break. Would not crank and only a buzzing noise. Jump started and ran fine and used it for about an hour. Shut it down and had to jump start it again. This time it when I put the hydro in L or H, it dies. Checked the seat switch and seems operational. Tractor will run the PTO (tiller is still attached), but just dies when placed in gear. Need to get it in from the field. Help is appreciated.

I dont know about this unit but to get it off the field you might try to feed the fuel pump or the shut off solenoid direct from the battery with a fused wire. If that works then I would think that you have a problem with the gear change safety switch.

Appreciate that. Got a new battery in there. Starts and purrs like a kitten. PTO will run. Seat safety switch working. Put it in high or low and she dies.

Towed it back the house with the Gator. Tried another battery. Engine runs great. PTO works fine. Seat switch fine. Hydraulics are fine. I'm not familiar with the gear change safety switch, but I'd say that would be on the right track. As soon as I put the hydro in gear, she quits. Any idea where that gear change safety switch is located and can it be temporarily bypassed.

make sure your PTO switch is not on. Do you have the E hydro?

This page is form the 4110 service manual. The switch is on the left side on the transmission-I think it's #20 in the other picture, one is the PTO and one is the NSS.

Thanks kennyd. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Towed it to a point between my garage and house and it's only lit by a pole light so I'll try the continuity test tomorrow during daylight hours. The ole girl isn't accustomed to sitting outside in the weather.
