Help so my b7100 has a few issues. First as soon as its put in gear it trys to go forward just a little before any forward or reverse is applied. Second low gear used to work the first day i had it but while trying to figure out all thw functions it now grinds and pops out as soon as forward or reverse is applied high gear works fine. Finally shutting it down when i try to shut it off throttling down as far as it goes and turning key off will not shut it off the decompression knob is not present so no using that even if I wanted to (though i know it's not a good to use it). So the method the guy i bought it from was to throttle down turn off the key and then put it into gear and then apply forward or reverse to essentially pop the clutch (im sure this is not good for it at all) anyway if you have any ideas on any of this please let me know. Thanks

The throttle linkage can be adjusted. Just remember the original settings.

Sound like the clutch may need replacement???

Block it up with wheels of the ground and go through all the gears and clutch useage. Also turn rear wheels with clutch in and motor stopped. If it makes noises they may give an indication of problem area.

note: overfilling fuel will end up on clutch.

Ok i will try that i did not know that the b7100 hydrostatic transmissions had a clutch but i guess that makes sense. Thanks for the input.

It sounds like the linkage that shifts the transmission into low range may be bent or otherwise damaged.

The decompression knob is for shutting off the tractor.

The HST pedal is probably out of adjustment. My B7100 will die if throttled all the way down, but it has a decompression knob that will kill the engine.

motownbrowne is this a huge repair? If I hold the lever in low gear and attempt to accelerate it grinds like crazy.

If the linkage is messed up, no it's a simple repair.

First step, though is STOP making it "grind like crazy".

You need to crawl under the tractor and have someone shift the lever between high and low. Watch how the series of parts between the lever and the transmission move. There's probably a pin that goes into the transmission that rotates. Make sure it's rotating freely. When it goes as far as it wants to by moving the lever see if you can move anything to make it rotate further. Don't force things, though.

If the linkage is the problem it should be a very easy fix, and the problem should be simple to identify. If this isn't the problem, it may be much more difficult to fix and require the attention of a professional.

May be give us a description of all you do when starting and changing ranges. The clutch will be required for these operations.

The clutch will be the pedal in front of your left foot. It should have a safety switch that will not let the tractor start unless the clutch is pushed in.

Changing ranges is best done when stopped and having the clutch disengaged.

if there is movement with the HST pedal in the neutral position there are a few things to check and a fine and coarse adjustment. Many times the roller that sits in a V plate may not be aligned properly. If this is the case the fix can vary.
