Help Pricing Antique Orphan - B.F. Avery

Is there any guidance anyone could shed on pricing of a 1948 B.F. Avery model V? It's been in the family and garage stored it's entire life and has spent almost all of the past 30-35 years on blocks although it saw action in the 50's and 60's. It was last started about 2.5 years ago. It's hard to imagine the tires being original, but I know they look pretty much the same today as I remembered them in 1975 (old/worn), so I'm not sure. It still has rear wheel weights and moldboard plow which survived because they were stored inside as well. Original manuals, etc.

I've had intentions to restore due to sentimental reasons, and am not 100% convinced to sell, but at the same time I realize I already have 100 years of projects on my projects list and am getting to the point of needing more garage space.

Any case, few people I've spoken to have heard of the Avery and I don't seem to be able to find classifieds online for guidance.

Any thought's on pricing or where to start? I will likely try to contact the Avery collector's group but given that a current Avery collector may be the only person interested in buying, I would like an "outside" opinion first even if it is obviously a bit of a guess.

I can post or PM pictures if that helps although don't have any taken at the moment.

If yuo lived in florida.. I'd tell ya that it wasn't worth much, and then show up with smoking tires on my trailer.

In reality, I think you hit a large part of the value on the head, so to speak.

Value for most collectables is driven by Collector interest, and unit availability. Obviously units with low availability will fetch higher prices, assuming there are buyers.

I would price it like an IH cub... That is.. if it were a decent unit that ran.. in the 1000-2000$ range. if it were restored and had lots of options.. perhaps 3000$ if I had a burning desire to have one.

If it was complete and straight.. but didn't run.. perhaps 800-1000, and less if not complete, or not straight. 100$ for a parter, crusty-rusty, or burned unit.

I you happen to be coming by florida any time soon, disreguard all that and I'd say she's worth 50$ and I'll give ya some gas money too!!! I've had an on again, off again curious interest in the avery line. i have a fondness for small tractors.. i have a cub, and a allis G.. and have looked very closely at massey harris pony's, and JD L/LA units. A fellow I know repowered an avery with a lawmower engine and coupled it with belts and pullies to the oem clutch. He added an electric winch that operates a wire/pully 3pt linkage... Kind of a junky looking contraption.. but it runs...

A friend of mine purchased an Avery about two years ago for about 500. I think it was. His was not in the condition yours sounds to be in,it was not complete and the engine is locked up I thnk. From what he and I have found it is hard to find many parts for them since there apparently were made in smaller numbers than the more common tractors. Pricewise I would think that Soundguy is right on target with his pricing advise.

My used tractor guide says $1000 in fair condition, $1600 in good, $2100 in excellent. Soundguy has it right on the money.

The Avery V is a neat little very collectable tractor I'd be willing to say you'd
get $1500 easily and probalby $2000 with a little advertising effort.
