Hi folks,
So the wife decided to do a bunch of mowing with the BX24 herself, because I was out of service with a neck problem, and the mowing couldn't wait. The job, she got-er-done alright, but told me that she almost crashed at the end of the session because our tractor had "no brakes".
Thing is, the tractor "had brakes" last time I used it, although the pedal was admittedly getting near the end of its travel. But now, it goes all the way down with no brakes at all. So my theory -- which I choose not to share with my wife for reasons of domestic harmony -- is that the tractor was driven with the parking brake on for an hour, and the brakes wore down (she rarely uses the tractor and is unfamiliar with the controls).
I'd like to try adjusting the brakes before I take it to a dealer for $$$ work. Peering in, in front of the rear tire, I can see the threaded spacer and a locknut on the brake shaft. But there's no way to get my hand in there. Pulling the tire may help with my elbows, but the adjustment is still in a narrow pocket between the frame and the orange molded fender. I don't see how you could swing a wrench.
So has anyone done this adjustment, and if so, how did you reach it? If the fender must come off, how is that done? I have the owner's manual but no workshop manual.
Thanks in advance!
