As I attempt to windup my towable backhoe build I am trying to connect my hydraulic tank to my pump. I need to go from 2 inch NPT (female) on the tank to SAE 12 (female) input on the pump. I have searched the fittings world over and am somewhat close but no cigar.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you wanting to do this with a hose? that might be the easiest?

Yes i do, i need at least inch and a half for proper flow

If this is a suction line? see the link below...
1.5" hose may require an adapter because #12 SAE is much smaller than 1.5"...you may have to reduce with NTP bushings to SAE #12...to use 1.5" hose

You can call the folks at the link below and actually talk to a knowledgeable person if you can't find what you need on the site...

Suction Hose Fittings > Discount Hydraulic Hose.com

Good Luck

Wow! That's a lot of flow. You can use a 2" NPTM to 1 1/2" NPTF bushing on the tank and use a SAE 12M x 3/4 NPTF Adapter on the pump (your inlet being SAE 12 is smaller than 1 1/2"). Then you can go to a 3/4 NPTM To 1.25 NPTF Adapter and then a 1.25 NPTM to 1.5 NPTF swivel. Then connect the two sides with a hose that has 1.5 NPTM fittings. I just looked at Surplus Center and they only go up to 1" hose fittings and Discount Hydraulics goes up to 1 1/4". Since your pump will be the restriction with the SAE 12 port, you could use either a 1" or 1 1/4" hose (provided that you don't need a larger pump, since you said you needed at least 1 1/2 hose it could be that your pump is undersized).

Actually I need closer to a an inch in line size when i look at my calculations but am having trouble finding those fittings you specified. I have looked all over the net believe it or not.

SurplusCenter and Discount Hydraulics (see /Pine's post above) will have most of what you need. For the 2" to 1 1/2" bushing try Eaton-Aeroquip or Parker-Hannifin.

Grainger carries Eaton-Aeroquip. Although a bit pricey at $37 for the bushing.

Since it's a suction line you can use common pipe fittings. Any good hardware store will have reducing bushings and hose to pipe fittings. Try Home Depot or Lowes. The SAE 12 fitting they won't have though.

Hose size that much bigger than the pump inlet is going to gain you nothing.

What's the gpm of the pump?
