Help on ATI All in wonder 9600, no sound to HD

That said, I have a ATI All-in-Wonder 9600 card in my pc All seems to work flawlessly with it EXCEPT for when recording to hard drive.

There is no sound on playback…video YES, just no sound.

Wire goes from wall to DSS input, DSS output to VCR input (VCR records just fine). VCR (component out) to video card input. If I take any of the wires apart midstream, depending on which one, the sound or video will go out on pc/monitor, suggesting all are connected properly.

At first, I only noticed it when I tried to record a concert, I figured there was some digital protection which is/was fine by me. However, as I slowly tried to record other things to see how it worked (news, commercials…..) I realized it was recording NO sound, video yes, just no sound.

Any ideas?

Oh, and I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled, though I intend to do that again.

Richard, Do you have the audio wire connected from the "audio out" on your ATI card to "audio in" on your sound card?

Richard, It might be a driver issue, download and install new drivers. I had plenty of problems with my AllInWonder when I first installed it, but it works great once the buggies are fixed.

No audio is captured when using the S-Video or Composite inputs on the ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON
This issue affects the ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON when used with:
the ATI TV Player from Multimedia Center 7.0
RADEON Windows 2000 display driver version 5.13.01.3100
When attempting to capture video from an S-Video or Composite source no audio will be recorded.

If video is captured from the TV input, audio is recorded correctly in the resulting video file.

The 5.13.01.3100 driver release was intended for use with ATI's Multimedia Center version 7.1. When used with ATI Multimedia Center 7.0 some functions of the ATI Multimedia Center software may not function correctly.

I've uninstalled the card (only drivers, not physically) and reinstalled. I ALWAYS seem to have an issue on installing software for this card, it never works first time.

Anyway, I completley disconnected the S-video line so that wouldn't be an issue, I once discovered what you mean about no sound when using S-video. so I took it out of the loop.

Just got done with reinstall and same thing...funny thing is, I looked in my archives and I DO have some clips recorded with sound. Nothing worth keeping (news while in shower) so none of them were concerts (potentially protected?)

I just now got done taking the VCR out of the loop and went straight from DSS to input of card. Same issue /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

oops, forgot to mention, the line in, IS connected. When I disconnect it, all tv sounds die. plug back in and sound back over speakers, just not when recording.

hmm...could perchance there be a windows slider control... (off to go look)

If you have windows XP do this:

Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices.
Click Audio tab
In center of window is group called "Sound Recording". You can select your default recording device here. Click the Volume... button. This brings up the "sliders" for adjusting recording volumes and sources. Make sure the "select" check box is checked for your line in, and/or ATI audio in port.


These directions are slightly different for Windows 2000 but should be good enough to get you in the right area to find win 2k's similiar settings.

This should fix the problem (hopefully).
