Hi All,
I am new to this forum. I am looking for a tractor that will suit my needs and am unsure if the b series is the correct thing for me. I have 7 acres of cleared, flat land. I will be building my house and a barn on it.
I don't forsee having to do anything more than mowing, bush-hogging and scraping my 800 foot
driveway. I would like a FEL so I can move dirt to the few existing low areas I currently have. Also, am unsure of 4wd or 2wd. I happened to stumble upon a 2000 2400 2wd with a 60" MMM and a 5' bush hog
for 12K. This includes a trailer and the machine has 15 hrs on it. They want 12K but I have no idea if this is a good price and if it's something I should be looking at. Please help!

Welcome to the land of unbiased liberal/conservative opinions.
Fortunately, or unfortunately there will be a million opinions given to you by a very knowing crowd. My only words would be go 4wd due to the tractor lighter weight/traction concerns.

I agree with Rocky, get 4wd esp for snow and working in the "low areas". Regarding the price it seems reasonable though the 2wd units will always be less. Also since your stated need is for a FEL that will add $3K to the cost, and for $15K you can get a very nice new package with mower/brush hog and FEL.

Welcome to TBN. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
I would start w/the B2410,B2710,B2910 for those model will suit your needs and be on..FEL will be a back saver for sure /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif and if you decide on FEL 4wd will come in handy on the muddy ground also mowing chores, plus hauling any wagon etc..also removing snow.

You may also want to keep an /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif open for a good trade in at your local dealership. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

must agree with ROCKY AND CARL u mosy assuredly want 4wd in a tractor that size. i have a b2400 and with out my 4wd, it would be very difficult doing fel work or moving snow. i am always in 4wd when working the tractor except when cutting grass.

Ditto on the 4WD. If you want a small tractor, you probably want 4WD - especially if you will be clearing snow. From what you described, you may save by not getting the FEL - though I couldn't imagine not having mine, but for filling in the low spots, a box blade may do the work better than a FEL. You could pick up a 3pt bucket and box blade at TSC for 1/3 the cost of the FEL. People have used those 3pt buckets with the on "N" tractors for decades with only an ocasional stiff neck. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
Do you need a trailer? If you don't plan to take the tractor far from your place, then it may not be of that much value to you.
After saying all this, I wish that I had a trailer & wouldn't want to be without my FEL. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif
If you're not confused now, I have confused myself /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I own 6 acres and my needs are very similar to yours, I did not get the FEL/w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif budget did not permit however I did get a rear blade, brush hog and Woods finish mower. My tractor is a B-7500 HST I got the above mentioned package for $11,800. I feel the B-7500 will accomplish all your needs, that said it seems to be the theme of this board to get the most tractor that you can afford I echo this comment, but the B-7500 will not disappoint. Good luck shopping is half the fun./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

For 7 acres I would go with a 2710 if your budget allows. About $16K with FEL. A 2410 would probably be sufficient also, but if you use a cutter you'd have to drop from a 5 down to a 4 footer. Definitely 4WD, in fact, I'm not sure you can even get these models in 2WD.

Ponygirl welcome to the TBN. While the price for the 2400 you described seems fair, you might just want to look around at other models before you decide. From your land description you have similar terrain to what I have. I bought a B7500 HSD/MMM/FEL/R4's for $14,375. It works like a dream for me. And the 4wd is a must when using the FEL. As for the trailer, are you really going to move your tractor around?
