I bought 8 acres 1 year ago. and found it had been logged, we have burned and moved many down trees that were left. but the land is still covered in downed trees, 100s of tree stumps and rocks every where.. We bought this place to retire on and have a few horses.. We didn't walk the land due to the thick weeds. I need it turned into pasture land..The problem is limited funds and ideas ????

Welcome aboard! Sorry, we may not be able to help with the funds, but you came to the right place for ideas. There's a Land Clearing Forum under the Related Equipment group that might help you get better responses for future posts on this subject.

I have 100 acres of a similar situation, and I have come to the conclusion that the only way is a bull dozer rental.

Are you actually living on the property? Is their a dwelling on site?

I would suggest taking your time. I live on just over a 100 acres. It came with bulldozer almost 20 years ago. Didn't take me long to realize that dozing wasn't always the best approach. I would break up your project into quadrants. Some areas may have drainage issues where other areas may not. Formulate a plan for each area and then get the right equipment in there. In my opinion, you might need a mixture of machinery in there. I'm not a huge fan of burning but sometimes it makes sense economically but long-term, adding chips or shreds into your soil will do wonders for your property's health. If you do have areas that are prone to erosion, shredding will help slow that process down.

Good luck..

Yep, as the man said, pick a small area, do what you want till complete
then pick the next area and repeat... Every long journey starts w/
few small steps..

Another possibility is buying a piece of equipment
and selling it when you are done as well. You will lay out
some coin but you will get back much of it when all is
said and done less any break downs.

I can not see pics of what you are up against, perhaps post up some
pics? Pics get better results I have found...:)

That's the way the man ate the elephant - one bite at a time.

Limited funds,100s of tree stumps and rocks every where, are two phrased you you shouldn't use in the same sentence.

The least expensive way is to flip the land and buy another 8 acres that you walk first.

With 8 acres of downed trees, rocks and stumps, you pretty much have the trifecta of bad things when buying land. On the bright side you didn't buy a hazardous waste area.

Like others said, rent or buy the best equipment you can afford, and one of those needs to be a good size grapple.
