About a gallon of diesel spilled out of a 5 gallon can onto the cargo area of our Subaru Outback. We were able to wipe up most of the spill but some got into the carpets and the foam of the seats. Anyone know what will help to get the residue and smell out?

Try SIMPLE GREEN to help with the smell.

Don't ask how I know /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Well, diesel smells pretty good as long as it's where it's supposed to be. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Looks like I get to ruin your day too! The only thing I can think of is replace the carpet and seats. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I realize that isn't what you want to hear, hope someone comes up with a better solution for you. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Bob, that might be the handiest tip I've ever read on TBN.

Since reading about your ordeal; and the postitive outcome:

I've used it on diesel, grease rags, and just yesterday, found it works pretty good against mineral spirits! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

use Dawn dish washing liquid lemon scent. Remove from vehicle first and use lots of soapy water to break down the oil first. Then rinse well and leave outside to dry. If you get the bulk of it out, then it will eventually dissipate to the atmosphere. The idea is to break down the oil with the dish washing liquid. Cold water will break down the soap. Warm water will help to flush out the oil. If nothing else works, start looking in the salvage yards for a new seat and carpet. Getting it out of the foam is going to be the hardest part. If the car is relatively new, you might be able to order new foam for the seat. Junk......

We use a good bit of Simple Green ourselves. I washed a car engine with it this morning.

BINGo. I spilled about 2 gallons of home heating oil when I removed my oil tank. Picked up all I could and put the ozone machine, using term losely, (alpine air XL15S) by it and 1 hour later, nothing.
