Kubota L2501
Hello,

Looked under my tractor yesterday trying to track down a noise and saw that a shaft going from the front axle into what I think is the rear differential is quite managled. I think the shaft is part of the PTO system, but not sure. I need some help identifying what it is so I can grab the right part for repair. Anyone recognize the part? Shaft 1.jpgShaft 2.jpg

Looks to be the driveshaft for your front axle, what you see is the outer tube that attempts to protect it, inside is a solid drive shaft
To the front. Looks like time to build some skid pans if you’re gonna continue to put the tractor In these situations

Might be time for that yes. I live on rocky land that this probably happened whilst persuading aforementioned rocks to get out of my driveway to smooth it out. So I need to figure out how to remove the protective tube that's busted and inspect all related components for damage then reassemble?

The cover removal and inspection sounds like a good idea. As an interim step you could shift into four wheel drive and see if you have any new vibrations or noises. If the driveshaft got bent you'll probably have to replace it or take it to a driveline shop for professional straightening and balancing. You may need the maintenance manual to determine exactly how to disassemble the parts.

Attached is a PDF of the parts list from Messicks in PA.

The propeller tube is attached with a bolt and is in two sections. From the looks of things you will need to remove the bolt and this should allow one tube to slide a bit so you can access and remove the roll pins in the drive shaft for removal.

What I would do is straighten out the tube as much as possible with pliers/tools etc. then lift the front end off the ground with the FEL and spin the front wheels (tractor off of course) and see if noise still exists.

Good luck! and yes get some under carriage coverage / plates / steel!
