Help id this tractor please?

Hello,

I just bought this from a neighbor that moved to the city.
He'd owned it abut 10 years, and only used the bush hog and rake for manure spreading, now I have it and have learned a lot through this forum, especially all the neat things I can do now and all the neat things I'd like to have to go along with it, but first, it needs a lot of fixin', like the power steering hyd arm seals leak, so does the diesel fuel injector and almost all the hyd hose couplings and connections.

What I'd really like to know is what Ford version/model/year is it? he said it is a 3400 Industrial version, and I've checked the springfield website with no luck because the place where the numbers are supposed to be is blank, also I can't seem to find any online that look like this one, even in the old yellow color that this one used to be before the bad blue paint job. The main difference
I see is this one has a heavy duty (3/8") cowling that the loader bolts to in the front, and the air breather is on the side, not out the top like others.

I'm sure someone else on this site has one of these, so if someone could just put up a link, that
would be a start to getting this tractor fixed up.

So there are no numbers on the left side bellhousing?

The air filter arangement is deffinately a later model.. I've seen man X600 series like that..

I've looked almost everywhere, a lot of nooks and crannies on this unit.
Here's a couple more pics of some of the numbers and tractor, maybe some
one will see something that looks familiar.

My BAD..( big fingers.. slow mind.. ) I gave you incorrect advice.. RIGHT side bellhousing.. look aft of the starter.. so Clutch side, and UP.. as in roughly under the battery..

Put your hand on the starter.. move left and you are on the bellhousing.. move up a tad.. should be a flattened area and 3 sets or so of hand stamped numbers.. not raised castings...

If the battery has leaked.. it will be etched and hard to read.. a white crayon rubbed across will help.

I can cross many of te old ford model, and date code numbers

I've just gone out and looked for the numbers where you said, and from what
I can see/tell, it looks like a "C5" then maybe a "4" and I think a "2" with numbers or letters between the 5 and the 4 and maybe the 4 and the 2, the 2 is more questionable than the others.

To much paint and crud so, I'll have to try and clean up the metal,
wonder how hard it would be to take off the FEL?
I'd bet it weighs a lot, not sure about how to do that,
but I can barely get my hand on the numbers area to clean it up, any ideas?

Should I use paint remover? I see the numbers are etched or stamped into the metal,
so it shouldn't hurt if I use paint remover, right?

A "C" followed by a "5" then a "4" indicates the unit was built in Romeo, Michigan in 1977. The 1977 run began at C527300, with 1978 run beginning at C560500. It would be a derivative of the 3x00 series.

I'm no way knowledgeable about the various models and such compared to a lot of guys here, but from the stance, the thick front axle, the tire size, and so on, my first impression was that of an industrial model that's been repainted in Ag colors. It looks very serious and very sturdy. Should be a good one with a little TLC.

Yeah that was my thoughts too, industrial model. Looks like it was yellow where the blue paint has been chipped off.

I agree, those old industrial Fords were good strong machines and seem to run forever, you should have a good runner there. As for taking the loader off, I wouldn't, unless there was a real pressing need. Have fun!

WOW! What a great tractor, don't know much about the older Fords, except I've heard that you can't kill them. The front bucket is huge, and those bucket hydraulic cylinders are very large. What a great purchase, and with a bit of wrenching, another 20 years, or more can be had out of that fine machine. Man, that thing is built heavy duty, and the FEL makes me swoon.........
