HELP: Attaching the hand throttle JM 284

Attaching the hand throttle JM 284. I don't know if I'm missing a part or just a hole that the throttle shaft should run through at the bottom. I know roughly where it should end up because of the linkage that goes to the pump. Is there any chance that someone knows what I'm babbling on about here? I'm going to end up burning off my lovely new paint when I weld it up out of frustration!

Attaching it where Andy? There is more than one configuration. Is your problem at the operator end, the intermediate linkages, or the pump end?

Andy, if you can better explain what you're looking for, I might be able to help you. I received my 284 this past week and can look and tell you what you want to know. My tractor is the LE model and it does not have a decompression system on it at all so it might be different than what you have. I'll be happy to help if I can.

Hi Gents, thanks for the replies.
Intermediate link, I would say, where the bar/shaft of this arm is attached to the tractor close to the bottom. Question: Do both the Shuttle shift forward and backward arm and the hand throttle exit the instrument panel at the same angle as each other? I think they should. I may try and attach a photo if we can't sort this out gents, it's so difficult to explain.

Dear ToolManRick, I'm impressed. Those photos, text and arrows are quite the business, thank you. Now that's the way to solve a problem. I wish I could attach a photo of my problem right now, but the tractor is in a friends workshop and it's not going to be possible until Monday. However, we do not have the same set up. You have a horizontal shaft/bar that must stick out on the right hand side of your tractor. Going up and down at the handle/arm end. Mine comes out of the instrument panel and move forwards and backwards. My bar is almost horizontal. I recognize parts of your setup that I have, the bracket for example, totally redundant now with the change from horizontal to vertical shaft/bar. RickO, does your tractor have shuttle shift? On the shuttle shift model the angle of the shafts is different. I don't remember any difficutly in attaching the linkage, but it would be difficult if you try to get them to have the same angle going through the dash.

Andy, don't have the shuttle shift. Occasionally wish I had hydrostatic, maybe get one after I win the lottery! I'd still keep the 204 though. Hope the guys can help you out with the linkage.

Andy, the linkage that goes from the throttle shaft goes straight forward and angles slightly left. There is a slotted bracket with about a 1-1/2" slot that it attaches to (just above where the foot throttle attaches) The other end (by the steering column) attaches to a hole in a flat bracket that moves when you move the hand throttle. Let me know if this isn't what you're looking for and I'll go look again. Been playing with mine and I really like it. The shuttle shift has limbered up with use.

Andy, the shuttle shift hooks up on the left (sitting in the seat) and the throttle hooks up on the right. Not at the same angle, the shuttle hooks up to a cable that runs down under the transmission on my tractor.

Hi Bill, and thanks. I've printed out your post, I'll take it with me to the workshop tomorrow, but I'm sure the slotted bracket is missing from my tractor. Please have a look at the excellent photos RickO attached to his posts. Your set up is not like this is it? I'm really looking forward to using my tractor, but I'm going to do all the modifications I've learned about on this site before I start. Andy, our slotted bracket looks just like Rick's but I think the linkage might be a little different. Very close though.

Hi Bill, My man in the workshop has decided to fit his own throttle. So we have given up on the original. There is definitely something missing. However, what's not missing is the hydraulic pump. We found it in the large bucket (fl).
Doesn't make a lot of sense packing it there, in the hoe crate or even with the tractor, but with the front loader! Never mind It's there and that's the most important thing.
I didn't take photos today because as I said we are going to change the throttle lever mechanism altogether. Instead I am going to attach a photo of a very happy man. Bye for now, Andy

Your really do look happy Andy, best of luck to you and your tractor, I think I will like mine. Lots of power for what I will use it for. The shuttle shift is great now that it limbered up some. Be sure and check the electricial connections on the starter, mine were corroded and not making good contact, therefore it was hard to start. I don't understand why the 284 LE doesn't have a compression release, seems like it would need one. Where are you located in Spain? I've been to Barcelona and Rota when I was in the Navy many years ago. Let us know how you get along with the tractor.

Hi Bill, Been a bit busy lately. If you look at the head you will see that the decompression set up is there, just no handle through to the driver. I live in Asturias, love it here, been here for about nine years now. Unlike my home country it's still safe to walk the streets. Tried out my JM today. I am a total disaster. Took ten minutes to pick up a stone and promptly dropped it. It then rolled back into it's original position.
I'm impressed with the power of the hoe, bit frightening really because when you're using it you're very close to the action.
My brake light sensor at the pedal fell off, but I found the nut and put it back. More concerned about the swiveling seat, because it swiveled off in my hand. It has, to my surprise, a bearing. Not needed really, don't understand why they should complicate matters. Anyway, the bearing has a retention ring which I seem to have lost, so the bearing has come apart. Seat weighs a bomb too. Have problems engaging the shuttle, like it though, I'm sure I'll love it when it loosens up a bit. Hard to hold the JM on a slope, clutch is also a two footed operation. I need practice, I'm sure I'll master the beast in the end, but I have to admit it got the better of me today I'm ready for bed! All the best, Andy

Andy, the pin to my shuttle shift sheared off at the bottom of the handle shaft. I installed a #10 1-1/4" bolt with a nylock nut and have had no more problems with it as the shuttle shift has limbered up quite a bit. I didn't get the backhoe, didn't think I need one. I did move a dump truck full of big bolders from my yard with the FEL though. Loaded them into the bucket manually and I am really sore after 2 days worth of that. You'll get better at using everything with practice, good luck.

Same here, I was told the pump would be in the hoe bucket but, when it arrived but it wasn't there. I'd heard of the BH's arriving without the pumps so I was pretty bummed out at that point.

The next day, my brother was uncrating the FEL and lo and behold the pump was shipped in the FEL crate!

As silly as it sounds, this made my day.

I attached my hand throttle tonight. It does protude from the dash at an odd angle. It's a different angle than the shuttle shift. It bolts to the hole directly beneath the hole in the dash next to the shut off lever.

I also noticed that the compression release isn't connected when the tractor is equipped with a shuttle shift. The lever is still in place on the back of the engine rocker cover but there's no linkage. I bought a choke cable kit this afternoon and I'm going to attempt to reconnect the compression release via a cable.

I'll post my success or failure.

Hello all. I'm having the same problem trying to install the hand throttle on my 2006 Jinma 284 (yeah, I never finished putting it together; its a long story). I can't figure how to anchor the hand throttle to the tractor. My photo #1 shows the hand throttle. Photo #2 shows a black 90 degree angle bracket that perfectly fits onto the hand throttle (it even has an offset hole that perfectly matches), so I assume that part is needed. Photo #3 shows a bracket that hangs down under the dash that I think the hand throttle should bolt to somehow. Photo #4 shows a couple of brackets that I haven't used yet. The bracket on the right may be the connecting part I need but I can't see how it could fit between the hand throttle and the bracket that hangs down under the dash. Does anyone have this same hand throttle that can show me how yours was connected? Thanks much! Dick Wood, Juneau, Alaska
