My grandfather ordered this 770 new, but it does not have any hydraulics. He basically got it to mainly run a small grain auger on our farm, and to mow lawn.
Now I am using it quite a bit around the farm and house, and would like to eventually get a loader and/or a front blade, and would like some hydraulic usage out of it. I have seen PTO pumps you can buy, or other options?
What is the best option to get this going? Thanks.

I doubt that once you see the prices on adding the hyd. you want if you are going to want to do it, or at least not with Deere Parts. You have several options to add hydrualics to the 770. One is to add a SCV which would give you 4 hydrualic ports for adding a loader or front blade. There was also a rear aux. hyd. kit,but it is no longer available. That would give you two hyd. ports at the rear of the tractor. You can still do the rear hyd. but you would have to come up with your own lines. May be able to run a couple of hoses for that. I would also think that there was a Power Beyond offered with this tractor as you could get it with a hoe attachment. Whatever you do it probably isn't going to be cheap. Your best route might be to find another 770with the hyd. you want and see what you would have to do to get what you want.

Sincerely, Dirt

I think you really need to list what you want to do with this tractor, and how much "sentimental" value it may have to you.

A new loader with controls will cost about $3000, used loaders are very hard to find-especially in usable shape.
Rear remotes will be at least $500, and will require a lot of legwork to find the parts-but definitely possible.
The PTO pump route is possible, but you will still need a tank for the reservoir, and large hoses, plus the price of the valve...probably looking at $750 or so and you loose your 3PH while this setup is mounted.

I just wanted to resurrect this thread, looking for more advice, and editing a little bit.

What I want to do is have the ability to use a FEL, or a front mount blade, or anything in the rear that uses hydraulics.

The tractor was one of the first made in 1989. Ordered it without any remote hydraulics. HOWEVER, it does have power steering, so some hydraulic systems are in place, just no remote valves or anything.

So, I am looking for clarification on if this is even possible, and what is the most efficient/cost effective way to make this happen.

You will have to tap into the main hardline from the pump (#8) to add new valves. It will not be a easy project. Depending on what/how many valves you want, you can expect to spend at least $600 or so...plus, if this is your first hydraulics project, the learning curve may be steep.

Whay can't you buy a used control valve body from a 300 or 400 series garden tractor and feed it from the tractor's central hydraulic supply (Not the power steering unit) and add the coupler kit parts? That gives you some hydraulics at least.

For example John Deere 300 Tractor Hydraulic Control Valve - eBay (item 200538654974 end time Nov-09-10 18:08:05 PST)

and

JOHN DEERE HYDRAULIC COUPLER KIT FITS 425 445 X475 X485 - eBay (item 400170254515 end time Nov-12-10 10:06:16 PST)

You'll need some hose and some fittings from TSC or from a dealer.

Thanks everybody. I did find this post on here from quite a while ago, and I did some checking with my local JD mechanic, and he says it makes sense. I have pulled the first plug he mentions, and it indeed does have an interior place to put in a plug. My thought now is if I put in the plug, will it deviate flow to the 3pt? Will I lose 3pt ability? I am leaning towards not losing it, since it is an open center system, it would flow out to the valve, and back in, cycle through the rockshaft housing, and back out again, right?

Here is the post:

, you could build it yourself to get a circuit to a valve. I'm going to try to explain where to tap into the rockshaft to get power - this is where the rear kit taps in. Look under your seat (standing at the rear of your tractor) You will notice one hex bolt and two hex covers one taller than the other (the two on the right are a round 3/4 or 7/8 inch hex) . The taller one is the one on the extreme right. If you look down the side of the rockshaft housing to the right of the taller, you will see a hex bolt (also 3/4 or 7/8") this is the supply port used for output to scv or the rear kit. If you remove this bolt, and add a hex plug in the port inside the rocksaft housing, and appropriate fittings, you will create a source of power. You will also need a return to the rockshaft housing for the fluid from the valve. This return port is below the taller hex cover to the front of the rockshaft housing. You willl see hex bolt and banjo fitting in front of the taller hex cover, this is the pressure line from you hydraulic pump. The return port is below this fitting. Its to the right of the 3 point drop rate valve. If your dealer is close, see if he will let you see the shop manual, this is illustrated on page 270-05-21. I think I covered where the taps are, but I can't guarantee if it will work or if fittings are available to fit these ports. If you try it, let me know. If I can be of more help, give a yell. If you don't have the parts catalog and the technical manual, I would recommend getting them, they're not cheep, but you can get a great idea of how things work and go together.

You will not rob the 3PH of power, unless the upstream valve is being operated.

How much is it to get hydraliics

So you think the above prescribed plan would work, then? I hate to try it and blow a line or the pump.
Looking to just get a 2 spool valve to have the flexibility of running whatever, and mounting it to the fender.

Thanks for your help. The JD auxiliary kit is now obsolete, but my dealer did find one at another dealer. It was really $$$$. I think I can get this done for <$200.
