JD 2320 w/200cx loader w/53" bucket
My 2320 has about 53 hours on it and I just did the 50 hour service. Ran it about 30 minutes after servicing and the throttle suddenly came loose and will only stay in the lowest position. A spring pushes it back when I try to increase it and let go. What has happened? I opened the hood and looked at the throttle cable linkage and don't see anything wrong, although I'm not sure what the linkage looked like before the problem. Could a counter balancing spring of some sort come off? What's supposed to keep it in position? Anyone?

In case anyone else runs into this, I'll explain what happened. There are two nuts that are supposed to be locked together below the throttle lever. To get to them, you have to remove the throttle lever and dash board and a metal bracket that holds the upper and lower cowls together (in order to get wrenches in there). The steering wheel can stay put, although at first inspection it appears it has to be removed. Clearly this had nothing to do with my 50 hour service - just coincidence, although I'm getting tired of loose and/or missing bolts (had the loader stick nearly fall off due to the mounting bracket not being secured properly). Talk about hard to get to bolts! My 9 year old had to help with his small hands to fix that one. Whoever assembled this tractor must have had defective torque wrenches. Have they never heard of loctite? My dealer was able to tell me what the problem was after I showed up in person, although they had only seen it happen on a 2305 which they say is much easier to repair for this problem. I opted to fix it myself after looking at the parts diagrams online. Warranty would have covered it and my dealer wanted me to bring it in, but I would have had to borrow a trailer and this was faster by far than getting it there and waiting for it for several days. I need to get a set of super flexible socket and box and open end wrenches (do such things exist?) if these kinds of hard to get to bolts are going to keep coming loose. What a pain. At least I now know where the extra light circuits are located.

Thanks for your excellent description of this problem. I haven't experienced any problem with loose bolts except for several Zerk fittings on the MMM deck drive shaft that spun off flying into wild blue yonder. I figured the shaft must have been a last item worked on on a Friday and when the 5 O'Clock whistle blew, the tightening on the Zerk's was forgotten!

Speaking of hard to get to bolt locations and Zerk fittings, have you tried to grease the Zerk located on the upper drive shaft (the shaft from the engine to the transmission) yet? The only way I can get to the fitting closest to the engine is to remove the floor and get my hand and grease hose into the tunnel and by feel snap the grease fitting onto the Zerk holding it there and pumping the grease gun handle with my third hand!

Hmm - I havn't tried to get to that zirk - I have hit just the ones mentioned in the manuals. I'll have to look for it. I'm guessing there are several different manuals out there because many of the pictues in mine don't look like my tractor - like location of the engine oil plug and the diagram of the access to the filter screen and magnets in the transmission are totally different on my tractor. I did take the oportunity to thoroughly lubricate the loader SCV links while I had everything apart. Not sure how you can really do a good job of it otherwise.

Beside the 2 Zerk's on the upper drive shaft, I also found one on the brake peddle hinge point under the left side floor board.
