Hello to all. What a resource for tractor info.
I have been coming here for the past 2 months review all I can. My interest is in the compact tractors and would like to pose a question.

I am interested in purchasing a TLB for work on my property and my families land. I own only 2 acres, the family land is 25 acres of woods.
Would the BX23 tractor be a good size for this being that most of the work will be at my place? (2acres)

I have roughly 2.5 acres which are half woods. I looked very closely at the BX22 when I bought and ended up with a B7500 for the following reasons:
1. The ground clearance is 12" vs. 6" for the BX. This was very important for me with the woods.
2. The lift capacity of the FEL is roughly 50% greater.
3. The digging force of the BH is roughly 50% greater.
4. The 3pt. lift capacity is almost 400lbs. greater.

I just felt that was a very significant "bang for the buck" for what I am using it for. By stepping up the one size, it has allowed me to do a lot of things that a BX22 couldn't have done. For example, lifting a pallet board of firewood. I can just barely get it off the ground with my B7500, so I wouldn't be able to do it at all with the BX. The question I feel is not really how much land you have, but more what you plan to do with it. There are a lot of people with a lot more land than I have with BX's and are serving them well. They're a great machine. Look at Junkman's post on stump removal. For me, the real deal breaker was the ground clearance for use in the woods, plus a little more power for stump removal. Hope this helps.

I plan on using the tractor for working in the woods (stump removing and covering), snow removal, leveling land for a pole barn, post hole digging...

When I looked at the BX23 is just seamed small, but never owning a tractor I don't know. The last tractor I ran was 35yrs ago (Super M Farmall). Now that I have my own place, its time to buy myself one.

Welcome to the compact tractor world. Who said you outgrow your need to play in a sandbox.
Seriously, I have 4 acres and use my bx2200 for stump removal, snow clearing (300 foot gravel drive) and moving a bit of dirt from one place to another. The power could be better but I find by using my chain saw to cut a stump in half I can usually pull small or old stumps pretty easy. If I can't pull or lift it out then I cut just below grade and kick some dirt on it and call it even!
No matter what model you choose, you'll find the Kubota to be one fine machine.

How many stumps are you talking about removing? Junkman did a nice job removing that stump on his property so it can be done with a BX23, however, if I had very many stumps I would seriously consider renting a big machine for a week/weekend or hiring someone to remove them. I just don't think it would be worth the wear on the machine or the extra time to remove many stumps.

Last spring I rented a mini-excavator (35-40hp) and removed a bunch of small stumps pretty easily. However, I had one 24" cherry tree that I couldn't budge....it would have taken forever. I used a 'real' excavator to take that out in about 10 minutes.

I think the small backhoes are great for the occassional stump or digging holes for trenches, trees, etc but ripping out stumps is very hard on the machines.
