Hi Folks,
Found this forum several years ago but just signed up. Bought a 71 Ford 3000 diesel with a loader when we bought our place (8 acres) 9 years ago. Guess I have the normal run of the mill implements, box blade, landscape rake and mower. Drug an old well used and beat Ford flail mower out of the neighbors weeds, rebuilt it and have been cutting the grass with it for the last 9 years. It's about on it's last leg, housing is cracking from stress and rust but it doesn't owe me anything.
Buddy of mine spotted a John Deere 25A 80 inch flail mower at an auction and for $125.00 it's now sitting in front of my shop. Roller bearings are shot but the main rotor bearings and flails seem to be in pretty good shape. Pulled the roller bearings and went to a local bearing supply to see if they could find anything to replace them with. Was pretty doubtful considering the hex center but didn't like the $120.00+ price each I found on the net. New bearings will be here on Thursday for $48.00 each including new housings. :cool2:
I use my tractor for everything, I'm an old man and if I need to pickup or move anything over about 25 pounds the tractor does it for me. Could not imagine maintaining this place without a tractor with a loader.
