Hello,
joining to share the little bit of knowledge I’ve gained over the years and to hopefully learn a few things too.
I currently have an early production Ford 8N, a Yanmar YM1601 and a 69 John Deere 140 Garden Tractor.
We have a little over 5 acres, with about 3 1/2 acres in woods.
I primarily use these tractors to pull logs (Firewood), honeysuckle & brush removal, snow removal, and a little grading/leveling of the yard/driveway.
The 8N was my first, and after owning it, I can’t imagine being without a tractor.
Aside from my primary uses
I’ve used it to remove large limbs/trees that have come down during storms, free the Zero turn when it occasionally gets stuck in a soft spot of the yard, pull/move dead vehicles , unload/move heavy objects, etc.
I restored the JD140 a couple years ago and gave it to my son for his 6th Birthday, surprisingly that little Deere can do a lot of work and he loves getting “His Tractor” out to help.
I purchased the Yanmar a couple weeks ago and Im still in the process of going through it, figuring out what works, what doesn’t, changing fluids, filters, etc.
it’s a little smaller than the 8N but I like having the wider selection of gears.
Being a gray market tractor makes things a little challenging, finding parts and info, but I’ve been using Google Translator to convert the manual from Japanese to English, and have found quite a bit of information here.
