I just bought 170 gallons of home heating oil at the price of $850.00. How the heck are people going to heat there homes this winter shelling out that kind of money monthly? People are going to start going postal.

I predict a sharp increase in the number of little 'ol ladies freezing to death inside their own homes this winter.
I hope I'm wrong but it usually takes that kind of thing to happen before any action is taken.

Well, you can do as I did, install extra tanks and order in the summer. I added two more 275 gal. and recently bought $2000 of oil (500 gal.) That'll last me a year.

Heating oil shouldnt have road taxes (but it may have sales tax instead) so theoritically it should be as much as $0.50 cheaper than diesel..

Wood stoves have gotten better over the lat 30 years.
The only time you can see smoke from our wood stove is at start up. The rest of the time you have to look real hard at the chimney to see the heat shimmer to know the fire is burning. Ours is not one with a catalytic converter so those stoves should be better.
The reports I have seen said that heating costs will be up at least 50% this next winter. Seems like the price has gone higher than that but 50% is bad enough.
Glad we heat with wood. The power bills for the AC are bad enough. But better than no AC.

Nice to know how out of date I am
I don't have access to free wood (the price of wood is too high to compete with natural gas).
So what did I do? Insulated like a wild man! Almost as good.
