Yep... give them a call and tell them that you intend to use it for your tractor. Im sure they will be happy to accommodate you. I believe the price will be slightly above heating oil prices. But, if you heat with oil, you can tap from the same tank. Just let your oil co. know so that they can change your auto delivery schedule, but your still not required to pay the road tax. If you don't heat with oil, you may need a minimum purchase to offset the delivery. Since all dealers are different and local ordinances are not the same, you should ask your co. if they will do it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Depends on the company - mine charges a surcharge for deliveries smaller than 100 gal.

This is a dumb question, but what the heck is "home heating oil"? Here in Texas, we heat with natural gas, LP, or electricity (heat pump or elements or a combination thereof). I realize our winters don't compare with the northern states, but just wondered what the "heating oil" stuff is. Is it just another term for kerosene or diesel?

It's #2 Diesel . You can also buy what is known as Red Fuel ,which is a#2 Diesel with red dye added . It is strickly for off road use . No Road Tax is charged or added on to the price per gallon . Getting caught running it in your Highway Equipment brings a stiff fine from the state !

In the Northeast, all home heating oil is dyed red......

With recriprosity between state taxing authorities and the IRS, using dyed diesel fuel on road will also bring a stiff Federal Fine.

And as if the IRS having a shot at you for road tax evasion isn't enough, the EPA can also have a piece of you--all road diesel must be low sulfur, and dyed diesel can be high sulfur.

When I worked at a small airport in New Hampshire, we used to burn Jet-A fuel in our diesel tractor. Kind of expensive, but still cheaper than sending one of us line service guys out to an on-road gas station to get regular diesel.

No, the jet fuel didn't make the tractor fly, although we did consider adding wings to it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We burn home heating fuel in the Caterpillar 3508 engine (1,027 horsepower) on the emergency generator for the hospital where I work now. Runs great and a lot cheaper than on-road diesel.
