My father in law has a tractor that has a 4 cylinder 2.2 liter Kubota engine. The heater in the cab does not heat very much. The heater core temp measures 135 degrees. The temp gauge never gets above 1/3. I covered the radiator and drove it around but the temp never changes. The air that comes out of the vents is not very warm (44 degrees) outside. Does anyone know the temp that these engines shoud run at? I would think that the heater would be able to keep enclosed cab fairly warm. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

there is something wrong.
the cab heater in mine will drive you out even with the blower off.
either it is hooked up in the wrong location, such as where it is tapped in, or there is air in the line to the heater.

The water temp in the line going into the heater reaches 135 degrees. The ouput line measures the same. What temperature thermostats do these engines use? I am unable to locate any of this information on the web.

Not knowing what model tractor you are working with is a problem. Older ones actually were quite different to work with for heat.

All diesels need at least or should be about 180 degree's although many will never do it at an idle and require a higher RPM like 1/2 to accomplish this.

I put my cab on ever fall and take off it off in the spring. The heater in my cab is overhead. Technically I should be able to fill it at the top and get a natural flow. I don't rely on that, I use an in-line fuel pump to circulate the fluid thorugh my heater - works great.

My heater is also overhead annd a I drained/flushed the whole system as a precautionary maintainance approach last year.
No pumps, just engine circulation pump, and let me tell you I often need to shut heater off.
You seem to have a circulation problem, either the pump, clogged rad or wrong thermostat (perhaps none).
My first bet would be bad or no thermostat.
I say that because you did not indicate any overheating issues.

Hope this helps.

Also, are you shure that there is no air in the heater lines, they need to be 'full up' if you expect the engine to push rad fluid to the heater core.

my heater does not come hot like it suppose to be the two hose come hot and the heater is just a bit warm its like that since i have it its a curtis cab and the heater too what do you do to let the air out

You have a circulation problem, Check to be sure nothing is obstructing your lines, When I installed my heater core overhead in my cab all I did was hook up the hoses and drove the tractor within 5 minutes the antifreeze was circulating, mine will have you sweating in no time.

Post some pics of the hookups from the engine and maybe we can help some more.

Not sure, but sounding like maybe the heater core might be somewhat clogged.
Are the fins clean?
I know on mine, I would not keep my hands on the core very long due to heat.

That or there is an air pocket in the heater core.

The way to fill the core is to squish the rad hose repeatidly to create a pumping action that forces the coolant up hill into the heater core.
The theory is with the circulation pump keeping a slight positive pressure on the system the squishing of the hose creates forward surges like a pump and flush air bubbles out.

im gone try to sqeese the hose and i will let you know if its work the heater core is clean and the fins too
